FS: 1976 Brass Rail (SOLD) & 1978 Bluesbender

I know many of you were watching the Brass Rail Deluxe auction from a couple weeks back, so I thought it only fair to give forum members advance notice that I will be selling the last two Mosrites from my private collection that I plan to let go anytime soon. They will be offered to the forum for what the opening bid will be (well below the BIN), but once they go to eBay it's anyone's game. Prices, pics and descriptions to follow.

1976 Brass Rail Standard (SN 82)

This is one of the few Brass Rails made in a color other than black (Semie must've been channeling Henry Ford for a good portion of the late '70s). These were sold directly to Mosrite's Japanese distributor, Hollywood Music, and shipped straight to Japan. I have only ever seen four of these White/Blonde versions (own two, keeping one) and they were all in Japan. At the time, Semie was talked into switching clearcoat suppliers to a product that was, in retrospect, less than optimal. As a result, every one of these I have seen has aged in exactly the same way - with a predominantly yellowed clearcoat everywhere except on the neck where it is worn off from playing wear. As a result, you can see the original color this guitar was in 1976 on the back of the neck. All original and sounds fantastic, and features the most figured rosewood binding and headcap I have ever seen on one of these. And it's one of the rare models with the brass electronics cover on the front. Chips, dings, hanger and stand burn - as with most guitars that were ahead of their time and resigned to sitting in music shops for years on end - and priced accordingly. Hardshell case included (amplifier not).

Unfortunately, I don't think they'll last until late August. Fortunately, I did find an old hardshell case to include with the Brass Rail. It has a busted handle, but it's built like a tank AND will even fit those hard-to-fit Ventures models. That's a win-win in my book.

I'll try and get details on the other guitar up this weekend, if not sooner.

For those Mosrite guys who really only have the Ventures models as a frame of reference, the Brass Rail is a different animal. The '70s were all about sustain, and this guitar is a classic '70s rock machine. The construction is very similar to its contemporaries - Travis Bean, SD Curlee, etc - deep set neck, neck-mounted hardtail bridge, brass nut (string guide, zero fret). Lots of twang, lots of power. Maybe in the ballpark of a Tele Deluxe. This ain't your dad's surf guitar!
