thanks for the kind words guys.

to do this color, i mixed up real gibson heritage cherry red toner and thinned it out with clear, a little bit lacquer thinner, and a wee bit of amber. i mixed it up in a pivotal sprayer to do the burst. I also used the burst amber and the three tone edge from reranch a few times on the edge as well because the pivotal sometimes doesn't spray dry enough.

i keep a spray gun at home, but its not the best to use, mostly cuz its a cheapo version i got at the local wallymart. a friend of mine has a spray gun that's AWESOME except it cost about 1500 bucks! if i started building on a large scale, i'd have to start seriously thinking about getting something like that. ;)

Very nice work!

I've been looking at the Reranch colors to do a 3-color burst, but they don't seem to have the depth of color or the separation that individually mixed colors have (like what Dub and Eddy use).

What's your opinion of the Reranch 3-color aerosols?

Hey,

I like them. The colors are translucent, so the depth really depends on how many passes you use with the can. I've gotten good results with them. the three edge tone looks like it needs to be slightly more red to do a mosrite style three tone sunburst though, but the brownish color from the two tone gets it pretty close.

I'm gonna try to do a mosrite three tone burst on a scrap piece of wood using the reranch stuff, in the next couple of days and I'll post it on this thread for ya. I don't know if eddy premixes his lacquer in house or not, but I think Danny does. Correct me here if I'm wrong. ;)

I did a quick test using the reranch stuff for the burst. I think if you were going to do a mosrite-style burst, i would use the "gibson cherry" color instead of the three tone burst. to me, the three tone just looks a little too orangey then red.
