Wow! Fantastic!

My high school (and still) best friend and bandmember bought a real '52 Telecaster in 1972, when we were both in college. Back then it was regarded as just an old guitar, so he sanded it down to bare wood and put some kind of clear finish on it, put bigger frets on it and did a bunch of other stuff and then sold it for a few hundred dollars.

The wood, though, when it was all sanded down, looked very much like Danny's build here. Beautiful.

Unfortunately a lot of that grain will disappear under a see through butterscotch blonde finish. I'm hoping to make it resemble the finish applied by Fender prior to 1954.

wow danny now you're taking it to the next level with making your own caps!

for those of you that arent as skilled as danny i recommend getting reproduction caps from these guys

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-1958-Tele- ... 43ab8cd0c0

they are very nice, ship fast, and supplies very accurate wiring diagrams with the part ordered. they were very helpful with my les paul 59 burst clone.

for fender bodies and necks I use these guys

i have a 52 tele i'd like to put together one day....
Cheers,

I got it all assembled and have been playing it. I haven't gotten around to painting it yet as the weather is too cold and too much moister in the air. Probably paint it sometime in April or May.

Looking real nice. The weather is keeping me from doing my projects too I still need to make templates and glue body blanks yet.

Danny, That looks great! The matte guard gives it a cool vibe.

Danny;
It's spring time and I'm getting ready in a few weeks to attempt the finish on my 52 Tele. Maybe you could post a how it's done so I can get some pointers.

Unfortunately I haven't touched that guitar since the last post here. I put it in the case and placed it in the closet and forgot about it until you brought it up. :oops:

I'll share my references that I'm going to use when I get around to finishing it. I've been too busy playing, rehearsing, recording and working on amplifiers.

If you decide you want a case that is real similar to the original poodle case used by Fender back in the early fifties, here's an inexpensive one.

Danny;
That's exactly where I am with mine. I played it for a few days, put it into it's tweed case just like yours, and haven't even opened the case in about 4 months. Been busy practicing, playing and learning.

Oooh! That's a pretty piece of wood...I'd be fine-sanding and putting an oil finish on it...

Hey--

On the PartsCaster I made in January, which emulates a 1952 as much as I could manage, I used an AllParts TMNF-V neck, which is a one-piece maple, very fat with a V-profile and small vintage frets. I ordered it pre-finished with aged nitro.

That is now my favorite guitar. Super resonant and easy to play, at least for what I do, and that fat V neck is much less tiring for my hands, which are big but with short fingers.

I couldn't be happier with that AllParts neck, and I read on the Tele forum that those necks are made at the Japanese Fender Custom Shop. Beautiful work, wherever it's made, and the finish was flawless. There are sources on the Net that sell the AllParts products for much less than on the AllParts' Web site.
