Change of plans

Well I was going to build a Mosrite clone from scratch but have changed my mind. I have that covered so I am going to make a Telecaster copy. I can buy the body and neck almost ready to finish at a price that is close to or better than I could try to make them. ( I would have to buy some more equipment to make them) My question is what are the best sounding pickups for a deep telly sound? I have NO :geek: experience with a Telecaster so this will be all new.

I built a Brent Mason copy Tele for a friend using a Gibson mini-bucker at the neck, a Seymour D rail mid, and a Golden- Age Tele pickup at the bridge from Stew-Mac. The wiring is very crowded under that little Tele cover plate, but with push-pull pots, shielded wire, and some holding of tongue between the teeth it all went together nicely.

My friend records and gigs with this guitar, and says it can change its voice for any mix he wants...

That's great! Keep us posted.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I'm putting together a Blackguard, Ashe body, All Parts neck & Tonerider vintage pups. I've got all the parts. It's just been too darn hot to work out in the shop so it's on hold for now.

If you haven't already, check this place out. Especially the Tel Home Depot section. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/index.php

Yes sir, the TDPRi would be the place to check out if you're looking to build a telecaster.
Don't be surprised to find some of the folks on here are on there too. Teles are almost as cool as Mo's...

Lemme know if you need templates I can make you a set for a small fee. Can't wait to see this project materialize I've been wanting to build a pinecaster for a long time now just don't have the same time I used to.

First part came in today. A maple with maple board neck. It needs some fret work but I only paid $28.00 for it and decided to take a chance with it. The neck is straight but not the best fret work. LOL Tomorrow UPS should have the body and a rosewood neck for me. I'll post some pick when they come in.

May I suggest you check, double check, and then check again all the dimensions of these parts. I have had friends buy "offshore" parts, and bring them to me for assembly...so far they've scored 100%...something's always out of whack, requiring some creative massaging to make things fit.

OK here is what the neck and body look like. I think I will go with a natural finish due to the black binding on the body.

Thanks Sarah, I like it. It's not high end stuff by any means but I believe I can make a decent Telly copy from it. Every thing is cut and shaped very nice.I am going to put on just a touch of stain to bring out the grain a bit more. Something I learned from my Custom ling rifle days.
