Wow , someone posted this link on the simracing site I race on ...
It rocks !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52FpuqD3W5M I know it's only tenuosly Ventures related , and no Mosrites ( sorry ) .. but all the same
Dick Dale gives it some surf credibility and Stevie Ray was always a favourite of mine ...

I hope you like ... and that you haven't all seen it before

SRV and Jimmie Vaughan were both very influenced by The Ventures and Dick Dale. They used to pull off a version of Pipeline on a Double Neck Robin Guitar, with Jimmie playing the Octave Neck and Stevie Playing the Bottom Neck.

I emailed DD a picture of my Mosrites several years back, he emailed back "years ago, Semie wanted me to endorse Mosrites, but I was already playing the best. Nice guitar though"

If you get the chance, go see Dick. The guy is still incredible.

Yeah, It is a good version of Pipeline! Why is Pee Wee Herman popping up in the video though? That's random.

DD is on the Fender guitar showcase programme .. he talks about the really physical way that he plays the guitar and reckons that maybe
no other make would have stood up to it! You can really see how rough he is with it on that video .. My old '76 strat is one of those
where the neck is only held on with two bolts .. so I can't manhandle it too much.
I've had to scale all that back even more with my ranger .. it needs a lighter touch , but then I'm still teaching my fingers

Pee wee Herman .. yep I see him in there .. but I think he's got something of the fifties/sixties going on, so he kind of fits .jv

This version of Pipeline was in the movie "Back To The Beach" and Pee Wee, among others, was in it.

There ... Austin's question answered .. and for me too:-) Thanks for the heads up zarf!
Must have been a win win for film goers.. that version and the way Film soundtracks are real loud
these days. Usually live gigs are the loudest it gets.

I met Dick Dale in the parking lot of Chuck Levin's one day. He had a Fender guitar case in his hand. I was so flustered at seeing him that I blurted out, and I still blush when I think of it, "Hey, are you Dicky Dale?"
He looked at me like I was from Mars and replied, "No; I am Dick Dale."
God, I felt stupid. I apologized and asked him if the Magic Strat was in the case and he said it was.
He was nice, considering everything. I don't know what in the heck made me call him that.

as a long time surf fanatic, i was so excited when that version of the song hit the airwaves. (yes, it was played on top forty fm radio because srv was so popular). i thought it might have been the true beginning of a surf resurgence. i was wrong. didn't happen till pulp fiction came out. (better late than never) i was the only 20 something year old that even knew who the other guy was(dd). i was never too excited about the actual version, musically, of the song, but it sufficed. i just recently saw the video for the first time in 20 years. i was laffing out loud about dick dales hair.
