New motorcycle...to me!

Postby Sarah93003 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 9:05 pm

I am one happy camper today! I finally picked up my new motorcycle from the dealer. They finished putting on new brakes and tires and I just barely made it out of DMV by 5:00. I am all set for the weekend! Woo-hoo!

It is a mint condition 1984 Honda V65 Magna. I've been trying to get one of these for years and finally it came true. It is 100% stock and not missing anything. It even has the complete tool kit! It has 19,051 miles on it and runs fantastically. After I filled it up it was a short ride home so I didn't really get to see what it can do, however, I can tell you it ran up to 80 mph in second gear with plenty left on the throttle, AND four more gears to go! Pee Wee Gleason set the Guinness Book of World Records for fastest production motorcycle with one of these. He held the record for 1985, 85, 86, and 87 at 10.92 seconds @ 124 mph in the quarter mile.

Now don't ya'll get all worried. I'm not going to do that, well not on the street anyway. If I get the chance at a dragstrip though, I'll be all about that!

Oh yeah! That's what I figured as well. A guitar in my T bar bag, and perhaps a ZT Lunchbox on the back rack. Yeah, that sounds like the ticket!

I know! We have a local guy that has a shop that buys and sells used bikes and of course the work on them as well. He's been looking for a 1984 V65 for me for two years. He found this one at a dealers garage where it had been parked since 1997. I'm the third owner.

I've been watching low mileage ones like this sell on eBay for $3000-$3500. I got it for WAY less than that and I am so stoked. Yesterday we looked under the seat and found the original tool kit still in the Honda bag. Totally cool!

I need to get saddle bags and a windshield and I'll be all set. We're planning a week vacation in Utah and we're all riding bikes. Yesterday my roommate and I went on a couple of short jaunts and it is so nice to ride. I am really digging this bike!

You gotta love those V-4's. I can't wipe the grin off of my face when I'm riding mine. The only 2 problems are that it won't cruise at one speed (always wants to be accelerating), and it won'g pass by a gas station. You'll really enjoy it. Congratulations.
Jim
