This is off the usual guitar topics, but I thought maybe one of you computer experts might have an idea of what I'm experiencing with my monitor.
For the past several days, my computer monitor flashes, about every 5 seconds.....everything goes black for an instant....then back on......I don't think it is the monitor, but something in the power, or maybe in my internet server... :? I'm definitely not great with computers, and wondered if someone has experienced this, or has an idea of what my problem is.......thanks !

check the cable connecting the monitor to the cpu and make sure it's in correctly and the two screws that hold it in are tight. Does the whole power to the monitor cut off?

Hey Roger, just a thought, but can you try a different monitor to rule that out? Maybe from a friend. A screen flashing and then going black and coming back on just might be a monitor issue. If it does not occur with another monitor then I would say that's the culprit. If it does occur with another monitor then there may be a surge or something going on in your computer. I doubt it is internet related. :)

I just had a monitor die on me 2 weeks ago. It started acting up by not wanting to show anything when I started the computer and it had power to it. I just turned it off and back on and it worked so I thought it was just a computer thing. It turned out to be the monitor. It just wouldn't come on one day. I have also had some video cards go bad and they act funny before they go down completely.

Okay.....what happens is......every 5 seconds or so the monitor goes black, just instantaneously, it doesn't really flash.....but just like a blink of an eye, just goes off...
I did check the connections and screws are tight.....I don't have another monitor at home to check it out, but can probably borrow one.................it's very annoying, and obviously something isn't right...........thank you for your suggestions, Sarah and KRamone..... :) ....
I'll let you know what it was when we figure it out........

Could be the monitor or it could be the video card in your tower.

double check your resolution and refresh rate in your advanced settings to make sure that you're not trying to push a higher res than the monitor wants to accept... And the refresh rate should be at 60 hz.

Roger, I had a similar problem when I bought my new 'puter a little over a year ago. Mine was not every 5 seconds or so, rather it would flash every 3 seconds, then might wait as long as 6, 8, or 10 seconds. After getting very frustrated and checking all the typical connections, it turned out to be the individual outlet on my power/surge protector strip that went bad  . Soon as I had plugged it into another outlet on the strip, it was fine.....but man what a PITA  !!!
