Car Shows

Postby 101Volts » Tue Sep 09, 2014 8:25 am

Here's a topic we can have on subject of car shows and share photos in.

I was at one a few days before posting this; A lot of cars showed up. A White 1971 Ford LTD Convertible, 1952 Buick Roadmaster Sedan (Sans most of the body - it had no roof, doors or trunk, hood, etc.) 1976 Cadillac Eldorado, A 1958 Dodge with a 45 record player (A rather unusual and rare thing for me to see) 1980 Corvette, 1930 Datsun (if I recall right) a 1949 car that resembled one from Back To The Future (that the old couple passed Marty by in) and many more. I think my memory can be improved. I put a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis Station Wagon in, next to a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis Sedan.

I do have photos which can be posted.

To me, old cars and guitars go together! Just attended a local Packard meet last Sunday, mainly cars from the '30's (I'm more into '50's/'60's stuff) A couple of V-12's, one pulled in and it ran so quietly you wouldn't have known it was running if it hadn't been backing into it's spot. Have owned a couple of '54 Kaiser Manhattans, '58 Studebaker p/u, 5 Edsels, a '71 Javelin, '58 Ford "woodie" wagon, '58 Nash Metropolitan, '66 Mustang fastback, '69 Austin Healey Sprite, a couple of '57 Rancheros and probably a few more I've forgotten. I'm currently working on a '56 Packard "The Four-Hundred" 2 dr. hdtp. I believe Bob Shade is into finned Chryslers.

I like to say "Vintage" sometimes, since "Old" can be said for ones that go to the junkyard to be recycled. :P Anyway, Vintage Cars and Guitars do go together in ways. Mosrites are a rather unusual bird, Though not too uncommon as to not be unheard of by a lot of people - they do resemble old finned cars in some ways and as for the Mark V models (Particularly red ones) that's what the paint-jobs look like to me; older car-type finish.

Last Sunday? That was the same day I went to the car show that I posted about. BTW, I was reading that there were fewer than 300 Edsel Wagons made in 1960.

(Off-subject but would it be good for me to know how to drive a manual transmission? I haven't done so yet.)

101 Volts....very close, about 76 Edsel wagons and about the same convertibles for a total of about 2,260 Edsels for the 1960 model year. The Edsel Comet was to be produced to help the ailing brand, but the Edsel name was dropped at the last minute. Probably a good strategy as the Comet name made it through the 1970's on the Maverick platform for the final years.
The Packard meet I attended was last Sunday in Vallejo...no earthquakes occurred!

I love to visit places where classic cars are being showcased, especially 60s cars. For me those were most stylish cars and uniquely designed cars though they weren’t that safe in comparison to their current counterparts.
