Mosrite-like pickups?

Postby I.M.Noone » Sat Apr 10, 2021 4:36 am

I've recently purchased an 80s-vintage Daion Savage. They normally come with DiMarzio SuperDistortions, but some metalhead replaced them with a pair of active EMGs :? Anyway, these are very well-built guitars and I got to thinking about a Hallmark swept-wing that I'd had several years ago and those pickups..... My question is - where would you look for Mosrite-like pickups these days? Hallmark or other makers? I've even seen some reproductions from Spain on eBay. Not sure where to look.
Thanks in advance!

Well, you could order some from Ed Elliott. He worked at Mosrite in the 70s, and my Ventures II has Mosrite Repro pickups in it made by Ed.

You could also look up Curtis Novak. I know he has his feet wet with Mosrite Pickups, and he even has Mosrite Humbucker Repros available. I don't have any personal experience with them, though.

As far as I know, Mosrite used AWG 44 wire, and Alnico V magnets. They never made P90 sides pups, though. They just resemble P90s on the outside, but they're too small.
