Question for the Fender amp gurus!

Lucky for me I still have parts from when I used to work on electronics but my head is so filled with guitars and carpentry I had to forget some stuff. I have two tube sockets in my parts box so it won't cost me anything. I'll move the tubes around tonight and see if the problem tube is the problem. With the return jack, is it the tip or sleave contact that stays closed? Thanks for all the help, Kevin

Hold off on changing the socket (if that's the problem) as it may just need cleaning.

The tip contact carries the signal.

Under closer inspection all four tubes are glowing I just couldn't see it because it was under the dark tip of the tube. I plan on taking the chassis out and checking the return jack and spraying some contact cleaner in all the pots. Mr. Bill, you don't happen to work for or have an affiliation with Triode electronics there in Chicago do you?

No, I've bought some stuff from Triode when they were in the city, but I don't work for or know much about them personally. They carry a decent assortment of parts at usually fair pricing, but I've had a few problems with the way that they run or at least the way that they used to run the store. Now that they have moved to a far Western suburb I have no idea as to how they are running things.

Just an update, I squirted some deoxit contact cleaner in all the jack and pots and moved all the knobs around and no more loss of power sound and I replaced the tubes.

Deoxit will fix a lot of "mystery" problems, great stuff. I use it on every amp I work on.

I find that Deoxit will often cure the problems that other spray contact cleaners will not.
If you don't use it now, you definitely should try it the next time you buy a can of cleaner.

the can or deoxit that I have I've had for 8 years and still has plenty of shelf life left.

hey kev, just wondering do you have a 50 watt or 100 watt dual reverb or super lead? the 4100 was my favorite amp for many years.

I have the 100 watt 4100 hi gain dual reverb head. I love that darn thing, I had a JCM-800 2203 like what johnny ramone had. It was an 83 with the vertical inputs, that's one amp I wish I still had.
