Last night at the end of our gig I smelled that electrical burning smell coming from my amp. It played all night and I had no problems that I heard. This morning I took it apart for the first time after getting it and this is all that looked suspect to me. I couldn't smell any burning oder this morning but this cap is black' My question is, are there any caps that are black to start with? This is the first connection for the main power cord entering the amp.

Thanks for any info

Yes there are occasional black caps, and electrolytic capacitors can contain high DC voltages over 400 VDC that can stop your heart. Don't touch anything with your hand until all caps are discharged. Use a wooden chopstick to poke around under the hood.

Sorry Jim, I'm not familiar with the layout of that amp and I'm not seeing what you are referring to. There is a lot of information on the internet that should be able to help you diagnose the 'smell'. Type in a short question in your search engine and you should get some good starting points. Hopefully one of our more experienced techs will see this and provide your answer. Meantime try the search engine. Here's an example by typing in "Delta Blues burnning smell". http://forums.peavey.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=12377

I have a DB and if its more than a couple years old take it to a tech and let him/her check the tubes and caps. I did and the tubes where smoked and the El caps leaky he replaced them and my amp is better than ever!

I bought it new in 04/2010, so I have had it for a year and a half. I may have to take it to a tech to have it looked at.

Danny the cap is just behind the blue wire and just in front of the green one. It is pitch black.

Jim, Fender has a 5 year warranty on their amps, or have they changed that recently??... :?

It appears that the cap's writing is still visible (in grey or white) - wouldn't that have charred to illegibility if the cap burned? Maybe I'm seeing things ...

Fender still has 5 year warranties as far as I know. Peavey only has 1 year. This is just past it's warranty. Doesn't that sound just about right.

The marks you see on the cap are from me trying to clean it off.

If Mr. Bill doesn't see this, send him a private message. He'll know what to do.

Me Threeeee.....Jim, the only thing that has me confused is you said you purchased it in
04/2010. So, if that's the case, I'd take it back to where you purchased it, and have them
check it out.....after all, it's still under warranty..... ;) .
