Hallmark 60 custom through (depending on mood):
1) Ampeg GVT5-110, switchable 2.5/5W, modded with Eminence Legend 10". Champ-like 6V6 circuit but a lot more aggressive. Breaks up early and builds to a roar.
2) Fender Eighty-Five: 1991 red knob SS amp, 1 12", clean and dirty channels, Accutronics tank reverb, probably about 60w, made slightly notorious as part of Jonny Greenwood's Radiohead rig. Very loud (for my purposes), footswitchable shiny edgy cleans or a not-bad distortion. For when the mental surf is up. Much more depth of feeling than the usual transistor box.
3) ZT Lunchbox + Wampler Black '65 pedal. Magic loud 21st century rethinking of amp tech in an artfully designed miniature package--you have to be careful not to trip over it, but it can hold its own with drummers and full-sized amps. "I don't see how it's done," as Muddy Waters once said, but it works as advertised. To add more tone shaping and a Blackface vibe I put the Wampler pedal in front. The combination is surprisingly rich, with lots of variation on tap. I got these items about two weeks ago and haven't used either of the other amps since. They bring out a lot of flavors from the H60C that were previously just inferred.

Thanks, I have been a Gretsch fan going back to 1968 when I got my first. Wish I still had it and a couple of other Gretsch's I had along the way.
I have also had a few Mosrites along the way I wish I still had including a double neck.
My Hallmark sound great but I did change the pots to 500k and I like it better that way.

I have been using my Mosrite 400 that Ed Sanner designed with the built in fuzz lately but, I like my Fender Pro the best for clean tones.

The sound didn't change in a dramatic fashion. It has a bit more high end but not to the ice picking range and rolled off just a small amount of the bottom end. I like bottom end and thats why I like big 15" speakers and I still have all I need and then some. Give it a try, you just might like it. 500k is what Mosrite used and that is why I tried it. I haven't looked back and I play classic country.

Re: What's your amp of choice with you Hallmark??
i've used Marshall JCM800, Fender Princeton Reverb and Yamaha THR10c, sounds great with all of them but my personal preference is through the Princeton for maximum tone and with the Yamaha thr10 on the 'Mini' model cranked it sounds pretty Ramon-ish. I've changed my pickups to M-3 though, but they're potted and handle gain well

i also changed the pots from 250k which were stock to 500k cts, I also put a jensen cap and changed the pickups so the sound was a little brighter and sharper, but not sure how much the pickups vs the pots vs the cap contributed to the difference, but I like it better with the 500k pots
