Let's play "Spot the Hallmark"

Postby TriflerShawn » Mon May 20, 2013 9:34 am

:D

From this weekend. One of the greatest things about living in Louisiana. Our neighborhood association had a crawfish boil at the local watering hole.
My wife and I went had our fill of crawfish, visited with some neighbors. The band that was playing was a duo. The singer and keyboardist from a really
good local soul/r&b band. The rest of the band couldn't make it, so they were just doing the duo thing. Hoyt, the keyboardist saw I was there and asked
if I'd like to sit in on guitar. I ran home and grabbed my 60 Custom. It sounded KILLER! Had a few guitarists come up to check it out. I was definitely spreading
the Hallmark gospel. Anyhow, here's a pic. It's not very good, but you can definitely make out the guitar.

What part of Louisiana? I'm from New Orleans and have lots of family in the Plaquemine area.

How were the crawfish? It's getting kind of late for them things, huh? I live in Texas now and the barbecue is fantastic, but these Texans don't know how to boil a crawfish.

I'm in Baton Rouge. Yeah, it's getting towards the end of season. They're running kind of small now, but you still get a few choice ones.
They were really good. The guys that boiled them have it down to a science. I've had crawfish in Texas, and yes, they need to stick to bbq.

Man that looks like tons of fun!

Here in Maryland we have crab feasts similar to your crawfish gatherings.

Here you are livin large with a couple of dozen Md. blue crabs piled up in front of you and some ice cold beer.

I have always wanted to try crawfish, looks good to me!

I spot the Surf Pearl!!

Looks like a great time! Back in my road days, I used to love playing in Louisiana because I knew we were going to eat good!
Every part of the country's got something good--I've never had the pleasure of sampling those Maryland blue crabs, but they always look good! I grew up in San Francisco, where we have those Dungeness crabs--mighty tasty!

Yum!
I was Baltimore on business about 8 years ago. Definitely got my fill of crabs between eating boiled crab and those killer crab cakes!!!
Unfortunately for us here in Louisiana, eating any seafood from the Gulf is a dicey proposition. Thanks a pant load BP.

Well crawfish come from freshwater farms, so you're good for now.

Yep, crawfish is safe, for now.
I've seen oysters swimming in oil, and other nastiness in the last year.
Pretty much put me off of seafood that is not freshwater.

Wow that is a crying shame BP has not cleaned that up to the best of their ability yet. I guess nobody even knows how much oil is really down there.

Glad you have some good fresh water crawfish!!

Bob, what BP did was put a band aid on the problem.
Dumping tons and tons of Corexit on the oil. All it did was break the oil into smaller less visible pieces.
It's still there, getting into the seafood, and causing all manner of health problems for the residents
of the gulf coast. It's really heartbreaking, and we will be dealing with it for decades.
