My Deke arrived.....one small problem though.

Postby TriflerShawn » Wed May 22, 2013 8:23 pm

Fed Ex delivered my Deke earlier. Man is it gorgeous! It's in great shape, and if weren't for a cracked pick guard you would swear it was new. It's definitely lighter than the Deke I played last year. I think I prefer the black headstock.Classy!

One small problem though.....I heard something rattling in the guitar, in fact whatever it was was sliding around. I took off the pick guard and fished out the object. It was a magnet, part of one of t he pickups I suspect. Both the pickups seem to work, so I'm a bit confused. It looks, like the magnet(s) are on the rear pickup, but I can't tell about the front one.

I'm going to restring it this weekend, when I do I'll look, at the pickup. I guess I can just replace the magnet???

You want to make sure it goes back in with the correct magnetic orientation. With both pickups activated, if the tone is thin and nasal, they're out of phase, and you'll have to flip one of the magnets around. Those pickups are clones of Carvin AP-6's from the '50's and '60's, and those were pretty crudely constructed--I don't know if the Deke pickups are any better. They sure sound great, though--one of my former guitar students had a Deke model, and it was really nice. I made him promise that if he ever wanted to sell it he'd give me first crack at it, and he went and sold it to someone else!

Awesome, yeah, I thought it'd be an easy fix.

Yes it simply need to be glued back in place with the south side toward the pole pieces. This happens every now and then during shipping because the pickups are exactly made like the vintage models. The mags are simply glued to the coil.

Epoxy works well.

Bueno!
It looks like the shipping box took a bit of a hit, so I suspect that's what caused it.

Bob..........this guitar is SUPERB. Just spectacular in every way.

The neck, the fit and finish, the SOUND oh man, It is just the perfect weapon for a roots rock guy like me!

Bob, when I get a spare sec, I'd like to do a demo of my 3 Hallmarks.
Pretty much do a comparison of the 3 different pickups.

Let me say again, I think ya'll pretty much nailed it with the Deke. It is just phenomonal!

Please do demo your Hallmark II (Or all of your Hallmarks if you feel like it) with D. Boon amp settings at one point.
