Hi, my name is matt. my dad and I own a '65 mosrite celebrity that we're in the process of restoring. I work with my dad building guitars. He has made guitars since the mid 70s and I'm slowly learning the craft. electronics is my specialty, woodworking is his. As a couple of side points of interest, his family was originally from Arkansas but moved to Bakersfield in 1953 and resided there off and on since. A good number of our relatives still live there. (We're in the Sacramento area now.) My dad had two cousins who were brothers that both worked for Mosrite in the late 60s (I believe sometime just after the deal with The Ventures ended.) One soldered electronics and the other sanded bodies.
While Semie Moseley was living in Northern California in the late 70s he approached my dad (who had a cabinet shop) about a business venture. He wanted them to build some 600 guitar bodies. According to my dad, he was honored at having the opportunity but Semie wanted him to front the costs. Semie was to pick up the order upon completion and they would recieve a check in the mail within 90 days. Being the business risk that it was, my dad respectfully declined the offer.

Since 1999 I've learned and helped in building various strat and tele style guitars and also assisted in setup and repair work. I took an electronics course after high school and I do a lot of custom work on guitar electronics and some amplifier repair. I also wind pickups. (Yes, Mosrite-style pickups too ;) )

I'm a very busy person and my time is limited so I don't know how much time I can contribute to this forum but I plan on popping in and reading and posting occasionally.

What a wonderful story Matt! Welcome to the Forum...sounds like you and your dad make a wonderful team. You lucky man, wish I had had a dad (phew, is that correct English?) who made guitars instead of printing newspapers...
Yes, it would indeed be a treat to get to see some pictures of the Celebrity restoration process ...if you get the chance ;)

Welcome, Matt! Good to have another repairman on board :) I'm getting started in guitar repair myself, Right now I am going to work on guitar nuts until I gain more experience. I have to practice, I botched two already by filing one wrong and cutting the High E slot on the other too deep. Live and learn, right?

Hi again everyone,
sorry it has taken so long to respond. I'm a pretty busy guy so I don't get to spend as much time on the forum as I'd like. I'm also the kind of guy that doesn't really speak up much unless I really have something to say so I tend to lurk a lot.
Thanks for welcoming me aboard. Glad to be a part of the forum. Our Celebrity project has been a long one, sometimes I wonder if we'll ever complete it. The biggest hassle for me has been with the pickups. When we got the guitar the lead wires had come loose and it looked as if someone had chipped away at some of the epoxy. I ended up chipping away a good deal of it on the neck pickup in an attempt to reconnect the lead wires. So far its been laying on my workbench in line waiting for other jobs. We are working on a website, hope to have it up soon. Pretty soon we're planning to start tinkering around with a '63 Sidejack-style guitar with more updated player features. I've always wanted the look and tone but something with more of the medium frets and a radiused neck. Maybe some locking tuners...That is our next project and I'll be sure to post some pictures of it as we go along.
Thanks again to everyone!
