Dear all,

thanks for the admission.

My name is Sven and i live in Hannover, germany. I am 45 and play music since i was 14. I play guitar, bass and drums. Mainly i play Gibson electric guitars and Taylor acoustics.

Mosrite got my first attention from the Ramones and the B-52's, when is was a teenager. I always found them beautiful but never bought one, until now.

I've done some research and found a fine guitar on reverb.

I thought about it a few days, liked how it looked and decided that this should be my first Mosrite.
I made an offer and got it for 780€ + shipping.

I am happy and very looking forward to it. Should arrive on monday.

The seller wrote it was made in japan in 1970.

On the small papersign on the one picture where the head is laying down it says "the avengers".
I saw this after i bought it.

From what i found in this great forum about Avengers i don't think this is an Avenger guitar.

The other thing i have noticed is that i have not found a single Mosrite Ventures on the internet with a bright (i belive maple) fretboard.

Maybe i am not doing my researches right.

It is confusing.

Anyway if it is a good guitar it is a good guitar and i hope it is a good guitar, then details don't matter.
But i only bought it from a gut feeling and the more i do a research and find nothing, the more i would like to know about this guitar and it's history.

Does anyone has an idea what kind of Mosrite this is?

This is a link to the offer on reverb.
I would be fantastic if someone could take a look at it and share hers/his thoughts about this guitar.

Welcome to the forum Sven, looking at your future guitar it doesn't appear to be an Avenger as it has all the hallmarks of a Mosrite. As to which version, Fillmore, Kurokumo, etc, it doesn't really matter as it appears to be a very nice version of the original Semie made Mosrite. And for the price you paid, you did good.

I am curious about the bone "nut" string guide and zero fret though. Hopefully it intonates properly and the zero fret isn't an add on to make it look more "Mosrite like". Regardless, it can still be dialed in.

Welcome Sven! I tend to agree with Danny that this is a later Japanese Mosrite, as witnessed by the vibrato plate having only “Mosrite”, but not “of California”. FIllmores had a different neck plate (a rectangle with a “teardrop” on the bottom), but at any rate, these are some great playing guitars.

Thank you very much for your replies!

That is great help!
It seems that it was not a mistake to buy it by gut feeling. That's what i was afraid of after the confusing informations i found about that guitar.

I am very happy with the new details you gave me and still very looking forward to its arrival :)

I'll get back here with my thoughts on the guitar after i played it.

Whishing you all a nice weekend!

Welcome, Sven. I also first paid attention to Mosrite because of The B-52s, but much later, in mid-2008.

Your note about not seeing Mosrites with Maple Fretboards is pretty accurate, they rarely had those. I can only think of a few models that did have Maple Fretboards:

1: 1976 Brass Rail Models (but these aren't 100% Maple, they're part Maple and [seemingly] part Rosewood.)
2: Some Mosrite M88s,
3: Some Mosrite V88s.

Maybe a few of the Gospel Victory series also have Maple Fretboards, but I'm not sure.

Come to think of it, maple fretboards are a rarity on the Hallmarks also. I actually prefer the maple to rosewood, they just seem to facilitate faster playing, but maybe that’s just in my head. :D

Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.
