Hey Joe,

just contact Ed through this forum. he's a good guy. I've played several celebrities and I like them. from the collector's sense they are not worth that much, but you could expect one in good condition go for 500-1000.
Dubtrub and I, as well as others on here work on guitars and we can help you out with getting the guitar back in line. Just let me know if I can help.

PS- I also agree that Ed Roman is an butt, based on my own personally experiences with him.

PPS- by the way, welcome to the forum!
Cheers,
Aaron

Actually, just to clarify, it's not the volume nob, but the input jack. if I hit the cable, the sound goes out, any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

First, congrats on the new baby.

I don't think that the covers will come off of those pickups. The pole pieces are not adjustable. They will be fine as is for right or left hand setups.

The problem with your sound cutting out could be a loose wire or just a dirty jack connection. If you remove the control plate you will see all of the wiring and can check for any loose connections or dirty pots, etc. If you have some contact cleaner like Deoxit, spray a little on the switch and jack contacts and into the pot covers as well. Work everything a few times to loosen up any dirt or corrosion and I'll bet that you'll fix it yourself.

Hey Bill,
Thanks, the pickups do sound quite good as they are, so I'm not too worried. I'm going to have a friends father who works with electronics look at it in the next few days. I've got a gig Thursday that I want to play it at though!

Thanks,
Joe

the first thing to check is the easiest and most obvious. the guitar cable. if it isn't the cable then my next guess would to check all the connections inside the guitar. it can be just simply a cold solder joint. this kind of stuff can happen all the time.
take it to a good repair guy, unless you want to do it yourself. and then at that point I'd have to ask, do you know how to solder?

The jack might of developed some rust on it over the years which is not uncommon, depending upon where you live (dampness, humidity, etc).
This rust will prevent the guitar cable jack from making good contact, thus creating the 'crackling sound' or just plain cut out entirely, with
the sound (signal) coming back again. If you use some real fine sand paper and lightly do a few swipes where the rust is, that's good for a quick fix ;).
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Sound advice Dennis…

Can’t add anything that’s already been said but our rhythm guitarist once had similar sounding "connection problems" and it took us quite a while to figure it out where the fault was hiding!

Although the wiring and solder joints in the entire cable were just fine, it turned out the fault was in the cable after all!
I did exactly then what Dennisthe Menace is now suggesting: "use some real fine sand paper and lightly do a few swipes". Problem solved!

footnote:
the cable in question was of a 'vintage type' (stiff as heck!) and the jackplugs a kind of brass/copper alloy (very prone to oxidization). I myself use a modern type flexible cable with nickel (think so…) jackplugs.

Good luck ;)

...Mr Wilson will remind you Dennis, that this won't work if there isn't any rusty components ;)

....of course it won't  , however I was referring how to correct the problem if you did find rust ;) .
