And really liked it!. Guess it's from '67-'68, neutral finish, and although it needed new frets, strings and a set-up one could still tell it's a cool guitar. To me it sounds like the a Mark 1/Combo inbetween'er.

Supposedly the J.M. Mark I is identical to the Combo Model. The only difference is the Combo has the 'F-Hole' and the
J.M. does not. Other than that, they both have the same p'ups, Trem System, hardware, and both Bodies are 'Hollow,'
One other difference..... the J.M. has the Walnut Top......

production J.M.'s have a spruce top and walnut back and sides All one block routed out.

.....and the very 'hollow ommmpphy' way the Combo responds to amp volume seems way different with the J.M. More controlled but with the same sound qualities.

Ok, help me out here, guys!

I've been playing the above mentioned JM a few times now. Since the last post it has been refretted and plays really nice. I noticed today that the string guide has been swapped out for a regular (maybe plastic?) string guide. Doesn't seem to affect the sound as it rest on the fret before as Danny talked about yesterday in the '63 thread.

Anyways I've been offered this guitar if I want to trade in my Mosrite Excellent plus a 2006 Gretsch Penguin, I mentioned here last fall. The JM is a guitar I'd like to own but I cannot decide wether the trade is too wild or not.

1) How much do JMs go for on ebay? $1500 - $2000 range, right?
2) The serial says d425. Anyone got a clue when it's from? It has the 'joe maphis model 1' silkscreen on the head
3) I'd say it's 8/10 condition.
4) The trade could probably also land a '66 Jazzmaster. It's in the same price range. That's what freaks me out a bit

Probably the wrong thing to say on a Mosrite forum, but have you seen what '60s Jazzmaster are selling for now on eBay? It may be a long tome before the Joe Maphis model commands comparable prices as an original 60s Jazzmaster. If you trade those two guitars in on a Joe Maphis model, that seller is making out like a bandit.

Hmm, that's probably a safe range. I'm not sure about how the open market would respond to a replacement nut and refret job. Is it in otherwise good condition? You've got to spend a little time wondering what the resale prospects are, too.
