There are some expert's on the forum here but they don't seem to speak up very often, if ever. ;) They just sit back and laugh at my explanations.
All right, I'll try to participate a little more.........
Danny also mentioned:
You said you may trade in some other guitars for this one. Are those you are trading collectors pieces? If not, you are getting a 1966 Mosrite and that's pretty neat. They will never make a '66 again.
Lars, that caught my attention as well. It's true, there will never be another '66 Mosrite made,
however, make sure you take note of what you are 'unloading' to get the Mosrite. Another words,
know what your guitars are worth that you are trading in.
e.g.-- Because you might be tired of your '65 XXXXXX or your '73 XXXXXX,
doesn't mean you have to lose a big sum of money to get Mo'. ;)
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Welcome to the thread, Dennis ;-).

Yeah, one (me) has to take it easy although I have the Mosrite bug at the moment. But they show up so very rarely around these parts. And there's no doubt that this one is pushed to the limit pricewise.

Do you know what your '69 Special is worth?....including the MODS?? What was changed on the Special? Pick-ups, was a Maestro Trem System removed? These would be typical mods on a Special.....

Here it is Dennis. http://www.dba.dk/asp/soegning/detail.a ... d=55813091

The price is right, I'm sure. Around 3000$.

Interested? Give me one of your Mosrite in return ;-)

Lars,

From the high resolution pictures you sent me, the neck pocket date appears to be Jul 27 1966.
Good luck on the negotiations with your trade. A little TLC cleaning it up should be a nice guitar.

Other than the refin, the only other Mod I see is that the Headstock looks as though it has Binding on it, a washer on the output jack, and some kind of baseplate for the tun-o-matic bridge. Were there any other mods on the guitar, under the p'guard, etc.??
What is the S/N# on the back of the Headstock? Doesit say "Made in the USA?" Does it have a Volute, sort of like the Mosrites?

Dennis - serial number is: 561876 (there is no 'Made in the USA').

I had the tuners changed but still have the originals. You are correct about the headstock. It's also covered with some sort of clear coat. There's some sort of balck paint on the pups (in a few places..) as well as the bridge. I have never seen this guitar opened up.

I've been to a few shops with it and all agree that these mods can be undone quite easily. What does 'Volute' mean?

Again, Danny, thanks a bunch for taking your time with this! I'm sure I'm not the only one on this forum that's learning a few Mosrite secrets ;-).

TLC cleaning? I need a dictionary, hehe.

I made an offer around the 5000$ mark. It's now up to the shop and private seller.
This is the price I feel is right for this piece.

Danny - all your info was confirmed to be correct. You are the man 8-).
