Mosrite clear pickguards

Yesterday I received the album I purchased on eBay of David Smith with the cover photo of the Mosrite factory. As I suspected, the Gospel guitar on the cover has a clear pickguard. I was surprised by that and was wondering if anyone has ever actually seen one before? I wonder if it was a "one off" or occurred from time to time.

pretty cool sarah, my guess is it would be a one off or a custom job.

That's entirely possible. David Smith was holding the Gospel with the clear guard and perhaps he ordered that way. It looks pretty cool actually. Once I've gotten a good scan of the album, I'll post it.

When I was a kid I watched Semie make a clear plexiglass pickguard then spray painted the underside gold. Never seen him leave it clear though.

That's interesting. That's pretty much how Gretsch makes their pickguards. If you look closely on the David Smith album the Transparent Gold Gospel has a clear pickguard.

Indeed, it is clear (...duh) that the "f" hole underneath it is not partially hidden, ruling out any possible spray paint job (same colour as the guitar's finish) as described by dubtrub ;)

When I got the album in my hands I could really see clearly (no pun intended) that the pickgurd is clear plastic. Kinda neat actually!
