Mosrite Ventures II - A collection of serial numbers

Hello Mosrite friends,

and especially Ventures II fans: I've built some kind of small database with a collection of serial numbers, variations, and years of production. It contains some serial numbers I've collected over the last 10 years and tries to show the evolution of the Ventures II model/Ventures Mark V.

Any suggestions for improvement, corrections (also on my English ;) ) and additional s/n are welcome.

I'm sorry it does not contain any pictures - I have pictures of all the mentioned guitars but I don't own the rights to use or publish them.

Here's the link: http://hang10.de/mosrite-ventures-2-serial-numbers/ - I hope someone likes it or can use it to date his Ventures II...

Cheers, Max

((Edit, 29 June 2023: The original link is dead now, so here's an up to date link to the Ventures II (Slab and Carved models) and Mark V Numbers List:

You can find other lists on Max's site, too, for the Ventures models (and also their 1970s V-I, V-II, [Guitar,] B-I, and B-II [Bass] versions: )

Great list, Thanks for sharing! I have something to add: My Ventures II German Carve Version 2's body has a date stamp of March 3rd 1966 and the neck has a date stamp of Jan 31st 1966. However, I did buy the guitar on eBay in pieces (See my restoration thread) so I don't know for sure if they were originally paired with one another.

I'm not completely sure what the serial number on the fretboard is, I think it's B670 but there are two or three more numbers that may or may not count; They are "4" And a "1" With either a circle or zero around it; The four is between the six and seven and the one is between the seven and zero, It looks like the neck may have been numbered as "41" Originally but these numbers seem to have been filled in, At least partially; I don't know for sure but I don't think I have a Slab Body neck, I think the "41" May have been a misprint.

As for the body and neck numbers (Are they the manufacturing numbers?), The Body was stamped as "0003" and the neck was stamped as either "0036" or "0936"; The second number was stamped right over a screw hole so I'm not sure which one is correct although I think "0036" is more likely.

Thanks to all the contributors for their support, so far...
I hope some of the slab body owners of the unknown serial number Ventures IIs will help me to fill the gaps...
Cheers, Max

Nice job Max! It might be a good idea to hook this up with the Mark I (the Ventures Model) serial numbers. ;)

Hey Dennis,
yeah, good idea - but I've never collected those numbers, always been into the Ventures II/88+ stuff... Someone else has to do it, or if someone sends me his collection, I could do a similar page for the Mark I...
I've some material for a Mosrite 80s-1992 data base like the Ventures II side, but it's quite fragmentary... should I post what I have?
Cheers, Max
