Comments, PLEASE!

Postby GattonFan » Tue Oct 28, 2008 5:16 pm

I just talked to a guy who has a Mosrite (Mark V, blue) for sale, who I'm meeting on Saturday to look it over. The deal is that he's only asking $700 for the guitar ... says it's maybe a late 60s - number V5760. I'm just questioning whether the deal is too good to be true? Whaddya think?

I think you'll know on Saturday when you see it. ;) Seven hundred is awful darn cheap, but it will be determined by what condition it's in. Actually for that price regardless of condition, it can always be brought back to life. That is as long as it is the real deal.

The guy just called me back - can't meet this week, so I told him that if he still has it next Friday, we could meet then. He lives about 80 miles south of me, but drives up to work on the weekends. He said he's had it since about 71, and isn't in that big of a rush to get rid of it - so I guess we'll see how it turns out. Uggghhh - I can imagine how many calls he's gonna get -

Dennis,
I'm sure you already know what to look for. But sometimes just the excitement of finally setting your eyes on a vintage piece can be overwhelming when the seller brings it out to you from the living room, closet, another room, etc. Don't let that get to you. Just be very calm when he shows you the guitar (try not to drool  ) and check the guitar over thoroughly, including the case (if it has one) such as working latches, hinges, as well as the guitar itself. Check for dirt in the pots, toggle switch. This is not a big deal to clean, however, it can be in your favor if you hear any static (scratchiness) for talking the price down. He might have the guitar, but you've got the money, and anything you can find negative on the instrument will actually be in your favor for negotiating.
Again, you know what to look for, just don't let the guitar 'overtake' your mind when you see it. You might even want to just scan some past postings and pix of MARK Vs on the Forum. Also, you might want to check with Jason (Bushers) and some other members that own MARK Vs for any other additional info and tips. Good Luck to you when you go and let us know how it turns out ;) .
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.
