Recently Acquired A 1965 Mark 5

Hello all, I like Mosrites but this is my first Mosrite. I have a Morales Mosrite style guitar and I had some Elliot pickups put in and I like it but it is not a really Mosrite although good. So this is my first Mosrite and it's Vintage!

As you all know the guitar is small. I have no problem with small scale but the low almost non-existent frets are hard to play but I am adapting a style to make it work out for me. I won't take off the middle two strings and I won't retune to B-52's tuning but if I put it in the bridge position and mimic the Rock Lobster song, although in the wrong tuning I can hear the tone that Ricky Wilson had. Not a B-52s fan but I like a few of the band's songs. Didn't buy it for that purpose but I think he's the most famous Mark V player as The Ventures didn't play that model although it had their name on it.

Oh it's red. I have to figure out how to put pictures up here if you want to see it.

Hi, photos would be nice. BTW, what serial numbers does it have? (Both on the body and neck.)

Sorry guys I didn't provide a photo. Here it is.

I posted this on the Gretsch Pages but some reason didn't here. Here are direct pictures from my posting there.

Not sure. I can check when I get home the serial # when I get home. Not sure I want to take the neck off the body but whatever serial #s I see without taking off the neck I can post.

Nice looking guitar! Serial number will probably be stamped on the fretboard at the 21st fret. At least that's where they are on the Mark 1s.

Thanks, looks good! BTW, your MK V is probably not a 1965 model; Mosrite still used the "Ventures II" name for this body style then. Even my early 1966 model is still a "Ventures II." This is likely, at earliest, a 1966 model; it still has the truss rod adjustment at the body end (they moved it to the headstock at least as early as 1967.)

Yes correct it's on the fretboard at teh 21st fret. I didn't get a chance to look at it and post it because I work at night and then I came home and slept during the day best I could and ran errands. I will for sure tomorrow post it.

Thanks it's a great looking guitar true. I like the vibrant red color to it. I am not a fan of the B-52s as I only like a few of their songs (and I am an old school New Wave/New Romantic guy from the early '80s too) but with that said I love Ricky Wilson's work on Rock Lobster, Lava and so forth. Did he use one on Lava? I know on RL he did. With that said that Ink Blue version he had looks good but I like the red better and fortunately got red like I like.

From the serial # I think we can determine the exact year so I'll post it. I have visited that website that kind of is a registry of Mark II and Mark V models. Many people have registered their guitar there. Good website to seeing what's out there. Not all are on there though.
