Most Mosrite Ventures Mark I guitars I've played seemed lighter than my '66 Ventures. The other day a friend brought his '68 into the shop, so I put it, my wife's '67 and my '66 on the scale to check it out. The ''68 weighed in at 7 lbs. 9 oz., the '67 was 7 lbs. 8 oz., but my '66 weighed in at a hefty 8 lbs. 11 oz. Has anyone else checked the weight of their Ventures Mk I?

My late 1965 Mk1 weighs 8.2 lbs.

I don't have a very accurate way of measuring. My scale is an inaccurate digital bathroom scale, which tells me that I'm 177/178 Lbs when I'm 170/171, so it's about 5% optimistic. I have to measure the guitar's weight with this, and I have to hold it while weighing myself on this silly scale. With that in mind, here are the figures.

March 1966 Ventures II (Carved, MK V Body type) weighed in at 7 Lbs 4 Oz. May be closer to 6 Lbs, 13 Oz. Keep in mind, I don't have all original parts on this guitar, but they're as close as I could get.

1976 Brass Rail Deluxe #10 - 9 Lbs 4 Oz. May be closer to 8 Lbs, 13 Oz.

Again, these are rough figures, considering my silly scale. I did check the scale to see if I could adjust it, and there are no buttons for that.

If you have a friendly Post Office employee or shipping contractor like FedEx or UPS, they might let you weigh your guitar on their scale. I have an old electronic scale at our shop we use for shipping and it's very convenient.

Is the weight of a guitar really so important that you need it accurate down to the last microgram? Just play the thing.

It is true, and my comment was about doing things like hunting down surgical scales that have been freshly calibrated by the US Dept of Weights and Measures when in reality a bathroom scale is just fine.

Sorry, I hadn't realized that the weight of guitars was a sore subject.
