Call me crazy, but I've decided to try to restore an amp head. I got this amp very inexpensively and if I can salvage it, that would be great. We don't see Mosrite amp heads very often and bass amp heads even less.

This one is serial number F0004.

It was in a fire of some sort, so some scrubbing and paint will be needed and perhaps new silk screens.

These are the photos I have to start. Once I have it in my possession next week, I may post up some new photos.

This will be a restoration thread so I will be updating step by step.

Do you have a schematic for it? Better get Mr. Bill back on the forum for guidance. Good luck!

Yes, I did see that. It appears to be local pickup only in Illinois.

Perhaps if they can't sell it you could persuade them to ship it??

That would be pretty awesome! I'll have to approach that with them.

My oh my, that certainly will be a challenge! There are two transformers in there, one is the main power transformer and the second one is a driver phase inverter for the power amp. The power transformer can be replaced if needed with a fairly common part, but the driver transformer will be nearly impossible to replace if it is bad.

I would suggest having the transformers checked out before having any work done, so that you know if it will be practical to try to restore the amp. From looking at the rest of the photos, it looks like all of the other parts in the amp are basic parts that can be replaced with modern equivalents.

I have not seen any schematics for these amps, but I imagine that like most amps built back in those days, it can't really be that complex.

Well, I always like a challenge! I'll cross my fingers that it is restorable. Any information or suggestions from anybody is most welcome!
