clone info wanted

Postby dave m » Wed Feb 15, 2012 1:16 pm

$100 Pawn shop find. Very interesting design with tailpiece, trem and rollerbridge. No labels or logos, just made in japan on the backplate. Celebrity copy or es335? Missing the pickguard but everything else seems original. Can anyone share info on this such as what kind of p'ups, maker, age. thanks

It almost looks like a Univox I use to have.

Is this your guitar that you bought at a pawn shop for a hundred bucks? If so, looks like a nice inexpensive guitar.

They were made by the same company in Japan that made Univox , Kent , Domono , Kingston among many other brands. They were all imported by an import company in New York .One of them was Buegeleisen and Jacobson. Also there was Maurice Lipsky Music Co. also of New York. Most all of them were from the 60'S and early 70"s .If you check out these brands you can see the same pickups, trem systems and many other parts.

Thanks for the info. I knew someone on the forum would have some idea of the history. somewhat akin to the Mosrite system with zero fret, trem and rollerbridge makes it interesting to me.

Looks like a Teisco in one of the many rebranded guises. Cool!

Your guitar was made by Teisco in the 60's or early 70's. Teisco made many guitars to be distributed under many different names. They even made some of the old Silvertones for Sears. I have an early Sears Silvertone bass that was made by Teisco and it's still going strong. Your guitar is very nice looking and appears to be in great condition for it's age.
