So this story was about Fillmore and Swing Science making Mosrites. Is Kurokumo out of the picture these days?

Nope, Kurokumo still make great guitars out of a very small town in Nagano, Japan. They have a website through which you can order guitars but they don't send them overseas - only to addresses within Japan, so it's a fairly limiting proposition. My wife's hometown isn't so far from there, so I intend to order one the next time I am in Japan, if not visit the factory myself. A new Mark I replica comes in at about $1400.

So that means 3 Japanese manufacturers are making Mosrites?
