Re: Kurokumo Super Excellent Low E string popping
It's probably one small spot on the roller that's causing the trouble. Since they don't really roll that much when using the trem, I'd try turning the roller so that the string rests on a different spot.

Re: Kurokumo Super Excellent Low E string popping
For what it's worth, I just had a problem with trying to use the "wrong" brand of string in Sperzel locking tuners...they were snipping my strings off neater than I can do with a side-cutter. Talked to Sperzel, and they immediately suggested a list of brands to use instead of what I had. I switched, and the problem went away.
Sperzel indicated that the wire used for many brands of string are much more brittle than others, and price is not the determining factor. Top of their recommended list? GHS Boomers!
I said all that to say, try a set of Boomers, they're inexpensive, and tough. If your problem goes away, you may have found your solution.

Re: Kurokumo Super Excellent Low E string popping
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll take some pics the next time a string pops and I can get a clear view of the roller. The last time it popped I did a thorough visual inspection and didn't notice anything glaring, but then again it could be invisible to the naked eye. For now I've just decided to always have a pack of spare strings around. I really like the DR strings but I'll try experimenting with others.
