Is there a way to tell who made my guitar ( Fillmore/Kurokumo)? I got it a few years ago from Zamm on eBay. I emailed him asking who the maker was and the year and never got an answer. I still haven't figured out the picture thing so please don't ask (I'm an old fart)! I'll have to get my seven year old granddaughter to help me Any help would be great.Thanks.

If you bought your guitar from Zamm Inc than chances are it was made by Kurokumo. I think he was the only dealer for Kurokumo in the USA but I could be wrong on that. Maybe someone else will chime in. Kevin

Kevin is right. Those should be Kurokumo (or called Excellent) if bought from Zamminc.

It dosen't have an Excellent tailpiece. It says Vibramute if that helps any It,s the guitar in my avatar to the left.

If the pickups, tuners or neckplate are stamped Mosrite then it's a Kurokumo product. Also, if it has M knobs with narrow skirts and no numbers - Kurokumo. Unfortunately, if you want a definitive answer we are gonna need pics, but to the best of my knowledge Zamm never sold any Fillmore guitars or parts.

The pickups and the headstock say Mosrite of California.So I guess it must be a Kurokumo.I had the neck off once and there were some markings that were strange to me. Japanese I guess.I have a real 1972 Mosrite and I kinda like the feel of this one better Thanks guys................................... Please Feel free to add any more info if you want.

If the guitar in your Avatar is the one you refer to, I am sure that's Zamminc's Kurokumo. That the background cloth which Kevin of Zamminc always used when he was selling those Kurokumo Mosrites on eBay. Check the photo below, Kevin sold me this one. That was the photos he used on eBay. You can compare mine to yours. Kevin never sold Fillmore Mosrites.

That looks like a nice guitar. Both Fillmore and Kurokumo make many models and price points of Mosrite copies. Both make nice guitars. I have 2 Kurokumos and 1 Fillmore and like them all. As far as I know, there are no dating nor S/N on my Kurokumos. One of them is a Nokie Edwards Kurokumo Mosrite prototype, so I know what year was made. The other one I can only go by the year I purchased from Zamminc.

The Fillmore I have is a Nokie Fillmore 2000 Mosrite 35th Anniversary prototype which is somewhat different from the regular Fillmore Mosrite copies. I will be out of town for two weeks and may not have internet access. Maybe someone else on the forum can answer your questions on difference between Fillmore and Kurokumo Mosrite copies.

There was a guy in San Fransisco, in the mid 90's that was selling Kurokumo. I think he went by, "Guitar punk" -or something like that. The "Excellent" ones were the entry level, cheapest ones. They went for just under $1,000.00. There were several models above them, some had "vibromute" tailpieces, etc. At that time they were still using "The Ventures" logo on the headstock. The very top of the line one was the "Royal '63" which went for around $2500.00. I bought one of these from this dude. It was a very respectable and accurate reproduction of a '63 sidejack. It even had the large Ventures logo. I need to figure out the picture thing too. I'll post some pictures of it when I do. I also had a "Custom '65" model, with vibramute, (around $1500.00) These were very good guitars. Eventually I guess the Ventures' lawyers were able to stop the logo piracy.
