Bruno, I personally am not sure which one is the better of the 2 (if there's any difference at all),
but I'm sure some owners on this Forum will be able to chime in and help you out .

From what I understand the Ranger is the "bottom-of-the-line" model, so I am assuming they cut corners somewhere. My guess is pickups and hardware. In another thread I already mentioned seeing Rangers with non-roller bridges, which seems like a pretty bad idea to me, design-wise. The "Of Classics" line is pretty broad, covering a few different models and prices. They're all made by Fillmore.

Personally my advice would be to look for a used "Excellent" model (they have been discontinued) made by the "other" Japanese Mosrite company - they just seem to feel more solid and closer to the originals somehow. They turn up on ebay every now and then.

unfortunately,I'm living in a place with no-no opportunity at all(Italy),so can't find that model,you can find a65 in white at5-6000 $...or a Fillmore Ranger at 2200$.....so I bought one Ranger in England for 1500$,now just waitin for it,I hope it.
My dream is a 65 model with white binding in sunburst,may be one time,I just listened to the Treblemakers's Margaya,great!!!

I have tried two different Excellents and I own one Ranger. Different animals. The Ranger has the Vibramute (the Excellents didn't), but my version has no roller bridge (anybody wanna sell one?). My Ranger feels solid enough - it has been a while since I tested an Excellent, so I can't say which one would be more solid. Maybe I'll do a 1:1 test in the near future. But anyway, I can't blame the building quality of either of these.

If you just look at the list prices used in Scandinavia lately, then the Ranger should be expected to be a much better guitar: a new Ranger costs in Sweden two times as much what the Excellents cost a few years back here in Finland. But then, the price tag doesn't tell everything.

Chemo, if you get a chance to make a side-by-side comparison that be sweet! I wasn't aware that the Excellents were sold in Europe before the were discontinued. They were available in Finland??

Yes they were. The company that imported them was Levytukku in Helsinki. They sold the Excellent model and a Ramones style Mark II (I have one). I don't know how many guitars they sold to Finnish market, but those Mosrites are very seldom seen in the used market.
