It's their quote time. I'm in no rush. It should sound wonderful. I'll post build pics as they send them to me.

Actually, like David Blackhurst and I were talking about one time - nitrocellulose never, technically, cures. That's partly why it wears off and discolors so easily over the years. Tony Hunt say's he always waited a minimum of 30 days before buffing if he was using nitro. With urethane based paints, you can buff the next day.

Although I always use nitro on the guitars I paint, I prefer a poly finish on my gigging guitars as my arm doesn't stick to it (as bad) when I'm playing.

Urethane based paints are usually tougher and will be more dent and scratch resistant too. Whereas nitro seems to dent too easily for my taste. Personally, I can't hear a difference in tone when it comes to solid-body guitars either. Just my humble opinion.

Hey--
I've heard for years about nitro finishes being sticky, but, in my experience, the poly-finished necks seem stickier. I can't hear a difference in guitars with either finish, but I'm not saying that others can't.
I have two Tokai guitars from the early 1980s, and the finish is super thin. Some guys I've shown them to swear they're nitro but others think they might be poly. As long as the finish is thin, I'm happy.
My preference, though, is nitro, due to that stickiness I mentioned. I confess that I'm a big user of Finger Ease, which I've used on the front and back of my guitar necks for the last 45 years or so. Never seen any bad effects from it, though others may have.
I think personal body chemistry plays a HUGE part in such things. And the one product I learned to keep far away from my guitars is Off! insect repellent. It damaged the finish of a brand-new Martin D-28VS I had and I cussed for a week.

i like the finish on the back of my guitar sanded with 800 sandpaper i think. it feels easier to slide up and down.
