Greetings. I've posted in this forum a couple of times asking for advice about an issue I was having with my guitar, and I've received some pretty solid advice. Thanks for that. The issue I am having is that my strings are consistently breaking at the bridge, usually the E or D strings. I asked a few people about it and it was suggested that I go to a jeweler to have the bridge de-burred and polished. I took it to one today, and he basically just suggested I do it myself, which makes sense. I went out and bought a precision Dremel and a sanding / polishing kit and some 3 in 1 oil. I've only used the wire brush so far because the battery on the Dremel needs to charge, but I'm already seeing a marked improvement. The bridge is coated in corrosion, and it was transferring to the strings and weakening them. After I get all the corrosion off and lube it up with a little oil, it should be smooth sailing. Are you sure they were breaking right at the bridge? I was having problems with the B and E strings breaking right around the ball end, which I solved by coating the twists at the end with solder. Apparently D'Addario now sells strings with this already done> http://tinyurl.com/coj8apf

Interesting. I'll try that if I have any more problems. I took apart the bridge and sanded & polished every part, put 3 in 1 oil on the rollers.

Had a similar problem breaking my E and B all the time, but I attributed it to using my tremolo too dramatically (which is more than true) so I blocked it to stave off temptation and continued on.

So, a little update on this. After my last post, I took apart the bridge piece by piece and grinded / polished every part meticulously for basically an entire day. I also added some 3in1 oil to the roller surfaces for even greater friction reduction. It's been about a month and I haven't had any problems yet. No snapped strings, and the tremolo floats like a dream. Apparently there was some metal corrosion on the bridge that was transferring onto new strings very quickly and weakening them, causing them to snap. Gotta keep it clean!
