I sent Bob an email a couple of days ago re: the 59 Custom, and it's still in the works - pricing under $1500 - how much under, I have no idea. What was greatly attractive about the 60 Customs was their affordability - for under a grand you could get a guitar that (IMHO) compares with any of the big names on the market - quality and sound.

I agree with that. The 60 custom is at a good price, for what you get, in a production guitar. They'll have to go some to convince me the 59 is a better buy at $1000+. Especially, if it's just cosmetics.
I'm still anxious to see what they come out with, though.

I agree, the Custom 60 is one cool guitar and one heck of a bang for the buck

I've mentioned my Hallmark 60 purchase on another guitar forum that I participate in and didn't get many comments, I think, basically because its not Fender, Gibson, or boutique....but, IMHO, the Hallmark will hang with any of the one's I've played and it's better than most in playability and tone. And this is coming from a 40 year, die hard, Strat guy

Re: Hallmark 60's Custom
Guys, I thought I’d just like to share with you the fact that I got to take my H60C for it’s first real outing today.
The event was the annual Shadows Fans Meeting/workshop here in Haarlem (not Harlem NY). It wasn’t hard to predict the scene; mainly pink Stratocasters, Vox amps, white Burns guitars and a handful of echo boxes -all great sounding stuff!
Allowance was made for each player to play 3 songs, whether in a band formation or with a backing track. It’s a fun arrangement with no stress and the level of players can vary from beginners to pro’s.
I got to play in a band line-up and my choice of songs ended up being: “In The Mood” -Shadows arr., “Bulldog” -Ventures arr. and “Last Date” -Spotnicks arr. I was sorry to have to scrap “Surf Rider” and “Diamond Head” because the other guys didn’t know ‘em well enough.
What about my Strat then? Well, although risking being the ‘odd ball’ there (which I was), I felt it was high time for a Mosrite shape and sound to hit the scene, so I took my Hallmark 60 Custom along for the ride and it sure stood out proud today, just like it’s owner!
I was surprised that a number of pro’s (older guys) recognised the shape (and sound) from yesteryear and approached me afterwards with their questions (the name “Mosrite” is practically unknown here in Holland).
Yeah, it also taught me a lesson today and that is to keep my Hallmark’s powerful pups on the leash at times!
Man, that poor thin sounding VOX amp I got to play on was simply shredded by those powerful pups on my Hallmark. The distortion was over the top and the Vox owner was constantly and frantically trying to remedy the situation during play. His efforts proved to be in vain: “must be those humbuckers on your guitar” he reckoned. Naw, not humbuckers I replied, just strong SC’s. When I asked him about his VOX, he claimed it came from England but I was convinced it was a modern clone, made in China. This amp just couldn’t take on my Hallmark.
The real VOX amps though (vintage), have a terrific sound which I like a lot and I just need to keep the volume on my Hallmark in check since I’m used to always giving my Fender Strat full throttle!
We had lots of fun today and I got to know my Hallmark a little better too! (Next time, if and when I go, my Custom Fender Vibrolux Reverb RI will have to come along too…)

Re: Hallmark 60's Custom
Cool story Veenture!
While I haven't had the opportunity to gig my Hallmark 60 yet, in A/B comparisons I've made with my Strat in my den, I ended up lowering the pickups in my Hallmark so it won't hit my amp quite so hard and I like the tone better. Now my Hallmark's drive is a little closer to my Strat...but my next gig will tell the tale when I finally get the opportunity to open her up on stage and see what she'll do in the heat of battle

Hey Paul,
You must have felt like Superman when he rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' symbol on his chest when you brought out the Hallmark. It's a great feeling to turn people's world upside down when you confront them with a Mosrite or Mosrite-ish guitar. From my experience they just don't know what to say or make of it, and once I get past their usual "what's that?" comment I love passing on every bit of info that I know. Yes ... I always feel good doing my bit to educate them heathens.
Bill.

I might just do the same thing with my pups Vec after some further 'live' trials. I'll go back to read again what you mentioned on this thread earlier on -about this particular adjustment. Look forward to hear your next 'stage report' with your Hallmark
