Celebrity 12 strings

Postby Sarah93003 » Wed Dec 16, 2009 5:35 pm

I am wanting to add a 12 string electric to my little troup of guitars. I am considering a Ric 330/12 Fireglo and it's easy to find sound clips on Youtube, etc. I am wondering how a Mosrite Celebrity 12 string would compare to the Ric, for sound and playability. Has anyone here ever played a Celebrity 12 string, how does it sound, how does it play, etc. Would you recommend the Celebrity over the Ric?

thanks, Sarah! :D

Hey Sarah,

Both are great guitars. A celebrity is going to be rarer so you will probably pay more for one then a Ric. but then again Rickenbackers are American made, so will probably not be cheap. the nice thing about Ric's is it's not too hard to fine them on places like ebay. I think it all comes down to your personally taste. it's pretty rare to see a mosrite 12 string with a tremolo, but I have always really wanted one, even though it might end up being a royal pain is the a** to keep in tune, lol.
tonally, a Ric is going to be the closest thing in tone to a mosrite then any other major guitar company, IMHO, so like with everything in the guitar playing world I think it all comes down to personal taste. :D
good luck on your hunt. if I find one I'll PM ya :D
Cheers,
Aaron

I don't know how stable the tuning is on a vibrato-equipped Mosrite 12-string--I've never played one--but I used to have a Vox Phantom XII with a Bigsby-style vibrato, bought new in '66, and that thing wouldn't get in tune, much less stay there!

It seems to me a vibrato on a 12 string is probably not a great idea. I don't use them much so I really would prefer not to have one on a 12 string model.
