Another new member (sad Mosrite story)

Hi everyone.

I currently do not own a Mosrite instrument, but I used to. My story is a sad one, well it has a sad ending anyway.

Sometime in early 1980, or early 1981 (hey it has been a LONG time), a couple of friends (Jimmy & Dickey) and I made the trip from East (Knoxville area) Tennessee to Rhythm City (music store) in Atlanta, Ga., so my friend could buy a Marshall amp. I was just along for the ride, but while there I inquired about the SG double neck hanging on the wall. The salesman said "Oh, its about $1,200, but that's not the guitar you want." "Huh?' i replied. "No," he says "I have the guitar you want in back." Curiosity piqued i said something to the tune of "Well, lets see it." He returns in a few minuets with a wide, flat, black case. When opens it up it was instant love. There sat the most hideously beautiful ax I have ever seen. It had two necks (6+12) that were not quite parallel and what I would have to call a turquoise blue-burst finish. The original bridge and tailpiece had been replace with a Badass bridge and the two holes left by the original tailpiece were filled with, what looked to be pine, dowels, but I still wanted it. "How much?" I said. "$350," he says. I reach for my checkbook, knowing this would pretty much clean out my account, but unable to resist. Soon we were headed back to TN, Jimmy with his new Marshall, and me with my new (to me) Mosrite double neck.

Pretty soon I had it on stage with my band http://www.myspace.com/candycremeandthewetdream. I remember feeling pretty cool playing it and loving the way it sounded when we strayed into our British Invasion material. Then one day Dave, the bass player, and I show up at what we thought was our secure downtown rehearsal hall to find the door unlocked, and his Precision bass and my Mosrite and a couple of stompboxes were gone. Cry.

The Serial number was D-002, or maybe D-0002 (I mentioned it has been a long time). I have never seen another Mosrite double-neck in person, but thanks to the internet I have now seen a few pictures of them. But, I have never seen one the same color. I would truly love to recover this instrument. If anybody here has seen it, knows where it is, or in now in possession of it (I'll presume you came upon it honestly). I would offer a reward/pay you for the instrument.

Hey Jeff, first of all, welcome to the Forum and thanks for sharing your story. I do not think that we've come across your double neck here, but I'm sure everyone will keep a vigilant eye open for it. If it doesn't ever get back to you you might want to have a Mosrite (double- or single neck) in the future some day perhaps?
Interesting band you have, I took a listen to some cool sounds! [edit: and took a second helping of "Chicken Salad Poptart", heh -reminded me of "The Average White Band" stuff]. Do enjoy the forum

Welcome to the forum. I'll keep an eye out on eBay for your guitar, I will say I haven't seen a blue Mo Doubleneck on eBay ever but I've only been checking regularly for maybe a year. I document most Mosrite auctions too, I skip stuff like shirts.

Thanks all for your posts. I know the possibility of recovering D-002 is a long shot at best. I am planing to acquire some sort of electric 12 string in the not-too distant future. Was thinking Ric, but I have not ruled anything out. I do currently play a 12 string of another sort...

I know its not great, but I had only been playing it about 6 months at the time of the post.

Any Mo 12's for sale?
