My new Puppy! 59 Custom

Postby SurferBill » Thu Feb 03, 2011 4:04 pm

Here is my new black 59 Custom. It is a beautiful guitar, and one of the nicest I've ever played. My luthier was very impressed with the quality...commenting on all the improvements over a Mosrite. Came with a beautiful case. Bob hooked a brother up!

Congrats! Did you specifically ask for the 60Custom style vibrato and bridge over the aluminum unit with the flip mute bridge?

I wanted a black 60 Custom and Bob said not available...but he had a black 59 with the Shade tail, and I said sold. I just read on SG101 he will not be making the aluminum any longer...too labor intensive. Don't know if that's true. But I already love this guitar.

So much the better - the Shade vibrato is a far better unit, much more like the Vibra-mute. The black with white is a classy look, though you may need to get a tuxedo to match. :)

Very very Cool! What amp will you be using with it?

I play through a '71 Band Master/2X12 with G-spring reverb. With the D'Addario Chrome 11-52s, it sounds sweet.

That looks great, Bill.
I spoke with Bob just as he was getting the '59 together, and said he was considering running a small number in cream, and in black. He has posted on this forum that the aluminum hand made vibro-tailpiece assemblies were labor intensive and if I remember correctly, only 50 were made. Maybe Bob will chime in, but like Mel stated, the Shade Vibrato is fantastic. I have a 60 Custom, and when I want a nice surfy chord to dip, I can use my pinky, that Shade vibro is so smooth.
