Glen Campbell's hollow body Mosrite

Has anyone ever seen a picture of Glen Campbell with this guitar. This is my 1969 Mosrite hollow body sunburst. I know that I saw him on tv playing it at a state fair. He had a few Mosrite guitars. This style must be rare. I have seen very few pictures of one like it anywhere. She's a beauty, huh?

Congratulations! I would be so proud to own one of Glen Campbell's guitars. He was always a great performer, and artist. Even now; he is declining with disease and id still sharing his craft with his fans!

I didn't mean to imply this guitar was owned by Glen. It's just identical to his. I am the original and only owner since I bought it new in 1969. Still, it is a pleasure to own and play. Happy to share these pictures with folks who love guitars, Mosrites, and the oh-so-talented Glen Campbell.

Original price? I think I paid about $325. I see very few pictures of this style. Must be rare.

I'm curious - what was the experience of buying a Mosrite new? Did your local shop carry them, or did you have to travel to another town? Was the guitar in stock or did you have to order it?

I drove over to a little town called Adams, MA to a music store in a guy's garage, Fran's Music. The old guy (probably 50) sold instruments at rock-bottom prices. I ordered it and it took a month to get it. Thanks for making me relive that. So glad I never sold it.

Looking back, I probably bought it somewhere close to Mosrites peak of production.

Meshugga, my kid self (already a Ventures enthusiast) wandered into a tiny local music store in the middle/late sixties. The owner of the store said he had a Mosrite but was disgusted with the company because it arrived with a broken neck. He shipped it back. At that point I wrongly came to the conclusion that however cool Mosrites looked they weren't well made. When I hit 48th Street in NYC a few of years later (rock and roll guitar mecca then but no more) I don't recall seeing them. Don't know how Semie worked with retailers. I met him at a guitar show in the late 80's. He had a few of his newer models with him, but for me if it wasn't a Mark I it wasn't a Mosrite!
Speaking of NYC, I noticed you and many in your band are from there. Will you ever return to your ancestral home to play?

TDaoust - Adams, MA? That's just past the middle of nowhere! (Seriously, beautiful country up in the mountains there, but I'm amazed there was a music shop at all, let alone one that could get a Mosrite!)

RBallister - funny you should mention 48th Street. The first place I ever played a Mosrite was in one of the small shops down the street from Mannys. It was 1993 I think. I remember thinking it nailed the Ventures in Japan sound, and I also remember the price being really high. Didn't get a chance to play another one until maybe six years ago.

As for MBP coming to NY, we'd love to but it's been time/cost prohibitive up to this point. If you know anyone who'd be able to put together a tour we certainly wouldn't complain.

if you watch any of the old Porter Wagoner shows (mainly the ones from like 67-69ish) Buck Trent (when he's not playing an electric banjo) is playing a Redburst Mosrite Combo (same as mine! with the full tremelo and maple colored headstock.

that's the only Combo on TV that i've ever seen... i'll have to look and see if any old Glen C. tv clips exist of him playing a combo.
