Mosrite Bluesbender

Postby Bryherb » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:48 pm

Hey Folks, as promised in the intro section here's some pics of a Mosrite Bluesbender that has been tweaked and cared for on my bench. There is no serial number to be found but the pot code on the bridge pickup tone pot is 137-7342. The 137 has a larger font than the 7342 and below this code is stamped "MEXICO". So Centralab was already making electronic parts in Mexico by then?

Image

I imagine everyone is interested in the bridge/bridge plate since I have not seen one like it here or when googling, so here's a closeup
Image

Here's a pic of the bottom of the neck pickup, I had to remove the very loose aluminum mounting bar, clean up the broken epoxy and re-epoxy it back on, it's on nice and tight now.
Image

The bridge pickup had it's issues too, the treble side mounting bar hole was stripped so I superglued a hex nut on the bottom
Image

But the big question is the truss rod. It has the problem that most truss rods have. It is real tight and the nut is digging into the bottom of the channel and it's nearly impossible to adjust. I was lucky to get the wrench in under it to loosen it about half a turn to put some much needed bow in the neck. Has anybody ever removed a truss rod from the headstock side of a Bluesbender? I once removed and rebent a truss rod from the pickup side on a Celebrity with no problem. I'm just wondering about this potential can of worms.

Please excuse my first long winded topic post. If anybody wishes for a pic of anything on this Bluesbender or other info, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
Bryherb
Now I gotta find a nifty avatar and figure out how to plop it in.

Hey, how about one of the pics you just posted? I like the 2nd PIC, only because it is a little different from the regular axatar's with PIX of Mosrite(s) ;) .

There are actually several peculiar things about this Bluesbender, in addition to the bridge plate. The dual push-buttons (instead of only one) and the general placement of the electronics are out of the ordinary. It also looks like the pickguard has had a 90 degree angle cut into it nearby the bridge pickup. Finally, it looks as though the neck is bolted to the body from the pickup cavity side, rather than from the back with the expected Mosrite figure-eight neck plate. Hmmm...

looks like somebody made an attempt to remove the truss rod already. When it's loose all the way, it will probebly slide out.if the neck is a bolt on,there may a opening on the other end of the neck.so you can help it out of the channel...but if it adjusted properly,I wouldn't mess with it.

I love the look of these guitars ... i didn't at first but i think i am coming round after seeing more photos of them recently.
Hopefully one day i will play one and maybe even own one!
I think Semi had a good eye for design :-)
