I'd been waiting for the right time for this, and I guess the right time is now. More details and photos to follow, but here's a teaser: Davie Allan's 6/12.

sweet....

since the whole band is playing mosrites in the picture, and since i can't seem to find any others where they are playing mosrites, only fenders, can i safely assume that there was some kind of $$$ deal with the band and the company?

There is a video clip of Davie and the Arrows in an episode of the old TV series 'The Invaders', and he is playing a metallic blue 'The Ventures' model.

apossibleworld,
Is that the actual guitar that was in a collection in San Francisco? Davie passed on buying the guitar back based on cost vs. repairs needed to make it playable again. Have you attempted to restore it?

Yes it is that guitar.

The backstory is that Davie had sold the guitar to a music store in the late 60s. A year or two later, the owner closed the store, and instead of liquidating his stock, he put everything in storage. When he died (last year?), his widow gave everything to Fatdawg at Subway Guitars to sell. From there it went to Davie, and then back to Subway, and then to me. I'm quite proud of it.

The story that I've pieced together is that Davie actually bought the guitar back last Spring, with financial help from some fans. And when he got it, he was unhappy with the fact that it needed work, and returned it. It hadn't been touched in 30 years. I had everything taken care of and I really love it now. It needed some adjustment on the necks, and the bridge pickups needed to be re-epoxied from the back. I love being able to say "necks" and "bridge pickups" plural!

Your double neck sure look good apossibleworld, like new old stock! thanks for sharing. I always get a good feeling when something is restored to it's original condition again (as much as is possible). Good for you.

By the looks of that first picture, those guys need to cheer up. How can someone hold such a great guitar & look like he's mad at the world?

EXACTLY what I was thinking. They make the old Animals band look like the Partridge Family.

Should have been called Davie Allen and the Surlys.

Davie "occasionally" hits the road, I highly suggest you travel to see him. Caught his show about 10 years ago at Lounge Ax in Chicago, killer show and a very nice guy. He had never played Chicago before and had only toured(sort of) the US once. He would introduce a song by telling a story, everyone would clap when he mentioned a song, to which he replied " I can't believe you people know these songs!".

I don't know the whole story but, it seems Davie got screwed, like most musicians from back in the 60's, on royalties and everything else that goes with the music biz. I believe he records for Little Stevens Wicked Cool label now, and, still gets some soundtrack work here and there.

Now what really surprises me is that Harley Davidson did not get him for theire 100th anniversary party in 03. Even worse, they didn't get him in 08 for the 105th. Little Steven is a huge supporter and Springsteen was the headliner that year. There is no justice in this world :(

Check out his website, he plays semi regularly in the SoCal area, sells signed cd's too. Nice guy that deserves more exposure.
