Epiphone Sheraton II

Postby dubtrub » Mon Apr 12, 2010 2:46 pm

Ok, boys and girls, it's show and tell time.

I got this the other day off Craigslist for a decent price. It's a '92 made in Korea by Samick with the thin neck. I tried the current made in China versions, although they appear to be well made and great sounding guitars, I just couldn't adapt to that chunky neck. This guitar did it for me. It is a well used guitar and was very dirty when I got it. I doubt it have ever been cleaned. Fortunately it cleaned and polished up just like new however the gold hardware has worn quite a bit. I guess that's makes it have 'mojo'. Now I've got to practice some John Lee Hooker licks.

That's a good looking guitar just as is. I wasn't aware that the necks had changed and maybe I got lucky with the Casino that I got from GC about six years ago. Seems like it might have been Chinese but I'm not sure. Mine is ebony with chrome hardware. I went to Stew-mack for gold hardware and black pick-up covers. This one had a really slim neck and great action just sitting there in the store.
Congratulations on your find.

I have had several Epiphone guitars through the years and have no problem taking them over Gibson. They were all good guitars.

Nice score Danny! Epiphones can be great value for the money, especially the archtops. I had a Riviera for a while, basically a Sheraton with less frills and a trapeze tailpiece. I thought it compared very favorably to the 70s ES-335 I had long before. Generally the weakest link in the Epiphones are the pickups, but there are a lot of pickup options - GFS makes some cool humbuckers at very reasonable prices. On my Riviera I shunted a coil in the stock pickups which was cool, and later had some GFS Liverpools in it.

Also, if it were me, I'd throw a Bigsby on there. ;)

Nice, Danny! I have a 335 copy myself and I like it. It also has worn gold hardware, What a coincidence. One thing I like about 335s is if you play them loud you can use the feedback from the f holes to your advantage and have fantastic sustain.

Nice 6 Banger Danny! As already mentioned, you can't go wrong with these for the money. Being semi-acoustic,
this is the type of guitar you always want nearby whenever you get the urge to play.......Sweet! ;)
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.
