Wow, What a great video...I like the videos inserts of the picking hand. What a true artisan Nokie is. Thanks for posting this!!!!

Great sound out of that guitar. Anyone know if Nokie was a finger-picker back in the Venture days - or a later convert?

Very nice clip! Did you notice the acrylic nails on his picking hand? Paul Pigat uses them as well.

I didn't know it then ( my teen years) but that attracted me to his style and sound since I never conciously registered hearing finger picking before in Rock 'n' Roll music. Nokie loved Country music (and to play it) from the early beginnings I believe. No surprise the Ventures did a "Country Classics" album (aka "I Walk The Line").GattonFan wrote:Great sound out of that guitar. The clip is from this dvd, right?

I have it & highly enjoy it. I think its sold out, but if you can find a copy, I can only recommend this.
This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!

Re: Hitchiker guitars.
thanks Paul....yes, I've heard Nokie play his Hitchhiker on many Ventures clips on youtube....he plays with quite a mellow sound from it, but he demonstrated it on a clip when he was interviewed for a TV show....he gets 15 different combinations of tones from the switches...
He can stretch strings for effect, but I would be so tempted to put a tremelo on it,
 ....he can play, no doubt!

Re: Hitchiker guitars.
He's amazing, I always like the way he makes dive bombs ...without a trem unit for goodness sakes; he does it simply by detuning one of the tuning keys for the duration and then gets back in tune within the blink of an eyerog43win wrote:He [edit: Nokie] can stretch strings for effect, but I would be so tempted to put a tremelo on it,....he can play, no doubt!
Chemo, you're right; it is from that superb DVD
