MBP @ Alameda 4th of July Parade

Postby MWaldorf » Mon Jul 05, 2010 5:47 pm

Meshugga Beach Party took part in the Alameda 4th of July parade again this year, rockin' and rollin' on the float for Forbidden Island, our favorite Tiki Bar. This year we had the pleasure of having excellent go-go dancing by Christina and Chelsea of the Mini-Skirt Mob.

And someone shot some video along the route as well:

Special thanks to Christina, Chelsea, the whole Forbidden Island gang, and Meshuggeners for a day Raviv and John!

Looks great, especially the dancers. :P

Did you finally get the headstock painted black and your MBP logo applied?

Yup, the dancers were a nice addition to the float. We hope to have them back next year!

I still haven't had a chance to properly Meshugg-ify the headstock. Amazingly, the paper overlay is in great shape. Why, you could almost call it a miracle... ;)

Cool Mel, do you guys play while the float is moving?! Surely that would be hard on all landlubbers! :D

Absolutely the truck is moving, this is true rock and roll! Thankfully with a good driver we can stick to the rock and roll and avoid the sway and fall. Since it's a parade, the truck isn't going that fast, maybe 5mph. The only issues we've had are crashing reverb tanks on any pot holes and last year, some idiot on a unicycle swerved in front of the truck, forcing a sudden stop on our part which sent Karen off her feet onto the amps. At least it was her husband driving! Otherwise, we keep the generator at the front of the bed surrounded by the speaker cabinets, bolt down the keyboard stand and put the amp heads on the bed of the truck instead of on top of the speakers.

If there are any parades by you, enter a float - it's a great experience. I can imagine there would be lots of smiles seeing you guys going by playing the Shads and Ventures!

How fun! Great advice for bands on floats, too. 8-)

Wish we had your weather for a day. It's been a fanatastic spring/summer up here, but has been raining for the last week. Wet parade and fireworks postponed until the clouds lift. Boo.

Hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July!

Very nicely worded there...poetic actually! Thanks for the float advice...yeah, that would be great playing Shads and Ventures on the Amsterdam Canals...on a float ...without wheels
