The neck cavity and neck are stamped with that date...the serial # is B174. I don't mean to stir up or deny anyones knowledge in this matter, but I'm just interested in obtaining info.

That's very interesting. I sure hope one of the former employees jump into the discussion. What model is this one? Obviously the body and neck date to Oct. 1965. I was told if a guitar ever went back to Mosrite Semie always updated it's parts with the latest greatest thing. That's a possibility. Or, perhaps the body and neck just didn't get assembled until mid 1966. That's another possibility.

Patent law is not flexible and there is no way Semie could put the number on his invention until it was granted on March 1, 1966. He would not have even known what the number was. There is such a thing as a "Provisional Patent Application" but they did not get implemented until 1995, so Semie did not have that as an option.

Both the neck and body are dated August 24, 1965...it is a Ventures II w/carve. So many inconsistencies.

That is the beauty of Mosrite! It's cool that yours has the date stamp. The early Celebrities sometimes had the serial number stamped into the neck cavity. I don't think I've seen one yet with a date stamp there. Most of the ones I've seen didn't have anything at all.

Hey guys my Combo Sn. HO 231 has a full Mosley trem with the patent number. Plus it has a unbinded F hole and the truss rod cover at headstock. Great work on the Celeb site Sarah. I really want that red one with humbuckers. When is the Combo site going to be up and running?

That's a good question. I've thought about either a Dobro or Combo site next. Or perhaps at the same time. Anyone want to help me tackle either of these?

hi sarah,
congrats on the site. it is so nice to see that you took your love of celebs and decided to share it with the world rather than keeping all your knowledge to yourself.

of course you realize this will only make celebs increase in value, thereby robbing you of your ability to find sleepers as easily......

First I'll say that you've really done a fantastic job with your website, The "Models" Section is very informative and I've learned more about the Celebrity I, II and III models already! I didn't know exactly what a Celebrity I was, I thought all Celebrity Is had the controls mounted on the guitar body rather than a plastic plate! I also thought that the Celebrity 12 strings were different models altogether rather than different kinds of Celebrity I, II or III models. Thanks a lot!

I'm always willing to contribute with pictures and information about any Mosrite guitar that has been on eBay since September of last year. I have a good share of Combos in my records.

Thank you everyone for your positive insights! I greatly appreciate everything ya'll do here. Most important to me is the integrity of my website so that I am not guilty of proliferating bad information. So, please let me know if even the smallest incorrect tidbit. After that, the sight will just continue to grow as we all learn more about these models. I do hope that people will share photos and serial numbers of their Celebrities. I hope to have the most comprehensive list of the surviving specimens. :D
