Thanks guys i am now levitating towards a fender supersonic 22 because channel 1 is a 22w deluxe reverb :-)
that seems to be the sound i am chasing....
and it has a burn channel too

the other reason after a little research seems to be the new HRD are made somewhere cheap (maybe mexico) and fizzle after a few years .... and the older HRD (USA made ones) are amazing&reliable but difficult to find in australia for a decent price.

The Super Sonic series are in the Pro Tube category and they seem to always have a better reputation for being better all round.

Whilst i am waiting for my decision for a new amp i just ordered a VOX AC4 to keep me entertained at home :-)

MWaldorf wrote:Not to sidetrack, but Veenture, there's a series of mods (google "Moyers Mods") to the Custom Vibrolux Reverb (CVR) to make it more like a Vibroverb (VV), one of which cures the lackluster reverb:

The CVR has a 500pf-coupling cap from the 12AX7 of the Reverb return to the pot. The VV uses a .0033uf.

The Reverb on the CVR is much more filtered out then the VV due to the coupling cap in the recovery stage. C16 on the VV is a .0033uf. On the CVR it is 500pf. This is a significant difference. I highly recommend replacing C16 on the CVR with a .0033uf Silver Mica cap. This makes the Reverb come alive on the otherwise Reverb challenged CVR.
Mel, you're so knowledgeable, thank you. Danny (dubtrub) has also pointed out a similar mod (if not the same) for the CVR. I wish I lived near you guys. If I find me a reliable amp guru near me, I'll do some serious talking with him.

Ryan, the Supersonic 22 sounds like a good choice for your needs. Are you lusting for a blond one or blackface?
Have fun with the little Vox :)

I have always had black face amps, so I am thinking a blonde amp will be a change ... But do blonde amps get dirty easily?

I don't think so but perhaps Mel (MWaldorf) will chime in, he has a couple of vintage 'blondes' making him very happy :D

I've owned my '63 brownface Showman with rough blonde tolex for fifteen years during which it's done it's fair share of gigging in bars and clubs. I haven't noticed an appreciable difference in the tolex, but it 32 years of patina on it when I got it. My Twin Reverb, which I recovered in smooth blonde tolex about five years ago has a patina now, a few stuffs, etc, but really, it's no different than the aging process of black tolex under similar conditions. The major difference between light and dark tolex is that on the light color tolex, stains can develop from knots in the pine underneath.

Actually the Super Sonic's two voicing are based on the Bassman and the Vibrolux. There is no tremelo.
The Deluxe Reverb RI has trem and reverb but does not really sound like a Bassman or a Vibrolux. The both are about 22 watts.

Had been looking (for a small amp to replace a 25 year-old Peavey) at the Fender G-Dec 3 30 and found one on outrageous sale, last month.

Took it home, played about 6 hours; there was less there than the hype implied, in this opinion. Took it back the next day.

As an almost 7 years L6 Vetta user, the Line 6 Spider Jam caught this eye. Pharted around at the store for a while, traded exactly even for the G-Dec 3 30.

A month later...in this opinion, the Spider Jam is the best $399 amp on the planet. Lots and lots and lots of modeling toys, no tubes to replace, ever and an amazing array of sounds. Surprisingly nice "shimmer" and "swirl" on clean settings, too, for jazz-lounge-oid stuff.

Gross name tho. 'Shudder at what spider jam would be like on a muffin.

Hey the new supersonic comes in a 22watt version with a deluxe reverb/burn as channels ... yeah i know about the trem but i never use trem in anything.

Oops. Your right, got my Super Sonics mixed up. Personally I would go for the DRRI. I really do not like amps with "burn" channels since I can be picky about that. I tend to run a Barber Burn Unit or a Lovepedal Les Luis into my DRRI for dirt.
