Re: Pondering upon picks
A friend of mine gave me a pick to try. It's a V pick and is unusual as it is reported to not slip between your fingers. Normally I use medium thickness picks but this one seems to work fine. If I was going to be playing Dick Dale style this would be the pick for me.

I have one of these as well. I don't know if I like it or not.

Re: Pondering upon picks
The guy that gave me the 'V' pick apparently felt sorry for me after he saw what I was using.
I build my own guitars, leather guitar straps, amplifier and reverb. So, I figured what the heck, I may as well make my own guitar picks as well. I've been using expired credit cards with great success for about a year now. Just think of all the money you can save if you cut guitar picks out of your spouse's active credit cards.

Use her/his finger nail file to round off all the edges and you'll be all set.

Re: Pondering upon picks
pretty interesting topic guys. Danny, I love your credit card idea, lol. for me, I usually play with such aggression that I run those picks pretty quickly. when I first tried a fender standard pick, I would break them inside 30 seconds of playing. fender then made the derlin picks that I liked a lot, they lasted a lot longer. all was peachy until fender discontinued making them. it was difficult to find another pick I really liked until I found these guys.

what I love about these picks is how easy it is to make the pick to your own specs, and you can have your own band logo on there to boot. I tried thier acetal picks, and I haven't needed to look any farther. I use a 1mm heavy pick, in the larger rounded triangle, so it doesn't fall out of my hand.

when I want to play something more mellow, I'll use whatever is around. but I usually go for a thin pick for acoustic guitar, particularly if it's a 12 string acoustic. the thinner pick tends to have a brighter tone to my ears compared to a heavier gauge.
also the steve clayton picks are pretty cheap. I usually buy 100 picks for somewhere around 60-70 bucks, and that includes my own logo. at least when playing in your bedroom, you can still pretend to be a rockstar

At local Saturday morning French Market, the pet food/accessories booth was selling pieces of deer antlers.

Hey Jim, great idea on the deer horns! Up here we pick "sheds" every spring...if I could just find a small enough five-pointer, I could give up finger-pickin'!
