Re: Finally snagged a '62 AVRI Fender P-Bass!
The '62 Reissue finally arrived last week (sigh...of relief) and the bass turned out to be everything that I had expected from it...plus... last night I managed to fetch $2,017.00 (converted from Euro's) for my 33 year old Fender Fullerton P Bass (it turned out to be from 1977). The cost of all my recent guitar purchases have been covered quite comfartably nowVeenture wrote:I'll have to flogg my other P Bass - a black vintage '78 USA Fender CBS to help cover the cost (hopefully more than cover!)

Nice score! And, a good trade off. I'd rather have a sunburst reissue than a black 77. BTJM

Congrats, Paul!
I have a butterscotch-colored CIJ '51 Reissue Precision that I have modded over the years to get it closer to the originals. I put a Seymour Duncan Hot single-coil pickup in it and it really works well for the kind of bass playing I do (classic country and rock).
Enjoy!

Thanks guys.
Danny, not just you...This has been my thinking too, EXACTLY! Black is not my colour of choice but somehow I often seem to get involved with black finishes
Jim, those CIJ Fenders aren't half bad, the thing is, as long as you're happy!
BTW, I misspelled "comfortably" unintentionally -sounds rather funny 'though... lol...

Paul, that was some fancy horse tradin', as a colonial westerner might say.
Some Chicagoans might phrase it as, "Eh, nice score. How hard did ya lean on somebody ta squeeze that much juice outa them...?"
Lovely bass. Enjoy!

Actually, Jim, the deal went very fast and smooth. Now here's a twist for ya: I found out later that the new owner is a bass guitar trader and is offering it for sale now on his website, for.....wait for it.......almost twice as much as he paid me for it!Haole Jim wrote:How hard did ya lean on somebody ta squeeze that much juice outa them...?"
Go figure...

Re: Finally snagged a '62 AVRI Fender P-Bass!
Actually, I made the decision yesterday to go ahead and mount the pickup- and bridge covers and even do it myself! (Yeah, for the bling and tougher lookHaole Jim wrote:So, how is it...?

I was afraid at first to 'hurt' the fine finish by drilling the holes for the mounting screws so I made a project out of it and did the drilling with surgical precision (Precision bass after all, ha, ha) and it went very well indeed. I countersank the screw holes (for the bridge cover) not more than 3mm diameter, to protect the finish from developing any possible cracks or chipping as the screws would be driven in. The screw holes match the Fender chrome screws exactly and I even felt a little proud of the results, having done it myself!
IMO this icon is now 'complete' ...just as they were back in 1962 when I fell in love with this model bass

Admittedly, it's more of a collector piece to me, rather than a player but I do enjoy the moments I spend with it -the sound is absolutely Fender spot-on, me like!
