Go to a hobby shop and get some thin brass sheet. Cut out a shim the same shape as the plate and place it under the plate. No more breakage. You'd have to look close to see the shim.

Hey Johnny, when Semie restored my '63 back in '90, he replaced the 'single layer plastic'
with the Later Sandwiched Plastic (triple layered) which is White on Black on White.
The W/B/W layer is also on my '88, and being that is my Main Guitar I use on Gigs, I
haven't had any problems with it for the past 20 years. ;)
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

I heard a lot good things about Hallmark 60's Custom. Personally, I never tried one so I can't comment. But I do have an US made Hallmark Stradette Custom which I like. The guitar is small but the pickups are powerful, the neck is a little wider and thicker than the traditional Mosrites. I believe these Hallmark 60's Custom were made in Korea.

I tried some of the new Fillmore Ranger at Ed Roman in Vegas a few months ago. They are pretty reasonably prices ($1500 at Roman's but cheaper if you buy directly from Japanese on line store, I saw as low as $899 one time, plus shipping, it is probably at $1100 range) Surprisingly, they are made in Japan, not Korea.

I also have a Wilson Bros VM65 which was made in Korea. It does the job but is not in the same class as Japanese Mosrites.

Man! That looks just like my Fillmore 50th anniversary edition, but a lot cheaper. I'll put a pic up at the end of this thread.

Here it is. I LOVE the finish on this. My only complaint was the flimsy tremolo bar. It was very cheap & kept lossening up. I replaced it with one from Hallmark myself. It took a little drilling and a little altering, but It's beefier & nicer than what came on the Fillmore. One other downside is the hardshell case compresses the spring when you try to close it. I leave that side unlatched.

Hey Eric, good to see you start posting  . Yeah, there's an OLD TRICK to preventing the case from 'crushing' the tremelo arm.
Semie showed me this back in the late 80s, but I know they have been doing this for years on other guitars as well. Simply,
move the tremelo arm towards the VOL/TONE Controls. This way, the tip of the bar is actually leaning in a downwards position.
NOW, you can close the case with ALL the latches...... ;)

Great looking guitar. I'd love to see a larger picture. Also, do you rotate the arm up and around towards the top rear of the guitar? That should take away from the compression. Did you see this thread about shimming the vibrato arm to keep it moving freely but stays in place? Loose arm

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a uhh Whirl?
The dynamics are a little different now because of the home drilling, replacement tremolo & I placed a rubber bushing in between. If I loosen the nut, I should be able to rotate it around.

I will check out that thread. Thanks for the kind words & the heads up! I jumped on this 50th Anniversary Fillmore Mosrite back in late 2002. Only 50 made. I got ser no# 002! I know some people out there thumb their noses at Ed Roman & the Fillmore, but he talked over the phone with me a couple of times & was very helpful with my purchase. I'm a novice player but Surf Guitar nut, so the Fillmore is perfect for my needs.

I don't normally disagree with Dennis, but moving the arm towards the volume and tone control works on a Fender but doesn't help with a Mosrite. Move it up and away towards the upper rear of the guitar. The arm is then almost flat with the rest of the vibrato giving about a one inch clearance from the inside top of the case lid and does not compress the spring.

H*ll, Semie should have known this. ;)
