Pink Mosrite Ventures guitar HELP
Re: Pink Mosrite Ventures guitar HELP
You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful instrument and the pink is so lush. If my '60s The Ventures model bass had had such a nice color I would have kept it the way yours is. But I had to strip mine because it was not only pink but it was hot pink! Probably that was why the seller on NYC's 48th Street was asking $200!

Re: Pink Mosrite Ventures guitar HELP
there is some odd ball things going on with this guitar. the logo and humbuckers would make one assume it's from the early 70's, but I can't tell from the pictures if it's a 70's headstock shape, but it somewhat appears to be. there's also a ventures logo that would never appeared on a mosrite at that time frame. the font on the serial number on the fretboard is smaller then what is generally on 70's mosrites and also the end of the fretboard is not rounded off on the 70's models but straight out with a large piece of binding at the end of the fretboard.
I'm just going to throw out a guess that maybe this was an earlier model that was reworked on by semie after it left the factory in the 60's, or maybe it was a transition piece. i'd love to see the pot codes on this piece. shes a beautiful guitar.

theres also a hole at the body end for the truss rod adjustment (via 60's mosrites) but theres a trust rod cover on the headstock like 70's mosrites (after 1966)

well also 70's mosrites have lots of lacquer on them the reason why you see that theres generally lots of checking on them. this paint job doesnt seem to have any. one of my 70's mosrites have very little checking so it's all possible if the guitar is well taken care of. another thing that just caught my eye is the logo on the headstock is a 70's font however theres no "by moseley" or "by semie mosely" on the headstock. so it really is like a 60's/70's mutant. pretty cool. this guitar is pretty dare rare.

I'm usually drawn to guitars of unusual colors, and this is no exception!
You have a fantastic instrument right there!

Re: Pink Mosrite Ventures guitar HELP
Hi Sheldon,
Am resurrecting an old thread but, who knows if you'll see it as it's already three years old but...
I used to own this guitar.
I bought it from a guy in Florida in the very early days of E-Bay and got it sent to London. Was told it was signed by Don Wilson.
Kept it for a couple of years and then sold it on to one of the writers or editors for Guitarist magazine who was a Mosrite fanatic. Am pretty sure it was a guy called Paul Day who wrote the Ultimate Guitar Book.
For a time i wasn't sure if it was a real Mosrite and thought it could possible be an old Japanese Avenger. From what i recall the guitar weighed quite a bit.
It had definitely been refinished, wasn't a Ventures model. In the end we worked out it was a 1974 Mosrite VI.
Pretty rare, i'd never seen that model with humbuckers, think i sold it for some ridiculous price as i needed to pay the rent!
Hope you're still enjoying it!
