Hey Tiki,
To answer your question about 60 Custom neck thickness: They are slim! Mine has spoiled me. Now when I pick up my AVRI '57 Strat, it feels like a split baseball bat. Some folks like that feel(the SRV Strats 'n Hats players), but for garage/surf, I like the slim, fast feel of the Hallmark. The pickups have some punch too.
I've been working on a cover of Jack Nitsche's 'The Last Race' (the hardest part is figuring out how to cover all those horns and strings), and the Hallmark 60 Custom nails the tone I have in my head.

Mosriteforever,
I hear the '59 Custom will have handmade aluminum tailpieces! One question, will the necks be the same feel/fretboard width as the 60 Custom?

I was afraid of this. Now I want one. I guess the J Mascis goes on the block...

Thanks!

PhilTiki,
Also think light gauge strings, just like on the original Mosrites. I use 10-46 on the Hallmark, and 11's on my Jazzmaster. A lot of folks have trouble trem-picking on light gauge strings, but I actually prefer lighter strings for that style.

Mosriteforever,

Wow! I want to hear an mp3 of that especially the horn section when you get it done.

Ha!
Danny, I think the main melody is played on a baritone. At one point it modulates down right off the fretboard. I've had to do a little re-arranging, and it's coming together. The big horn section asending is actually easy to "convert" to guitar. Barre cords working up from F# to E and then back into the riff (I play it in the 2nd position, F#).
Eventually, I'll have it down Ventures style ;)

Guys, I hear the Horn Section, but wow, the String Section (Violins and Violas)
are very dominant in certain sections of the tune as well ;)
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Yep.
Just before the fade out, the string section is carrying the melody, with what sounds like French horns playing accents--very grandiose. In my rock and roll lizard brain, I simply play the melody figure in the fourteenth position, and coda the song with the chord vamps heard in the intro.

And all of this with a Hallmark 60 Custom.

I've seen those J Mascis jazzmasters and almost got it when I sold my car but opted for the mosrite body I got.

Hello all, I double checked inventory yesterday and found we still have 2 of the sunset sparkle 60 customs left. If you want one Kevin, now is the time. I have to check with Bob, but I am sure the 59 custom will have the same dimensions on the neck as the 60 custom. Most players seem to prefer this over the early Mosrite super skinny necks.
