This guitar was offered to me by Ed Roman 2 months ago. I decided not go for it and did not ask any further questions. It was a consignment by one of Ed's customers. In the Ad, he did not state "100% original" just "original owner for 45 years". The owner might have changed some of the parts during the last 45 years. Without knowing the sale price nor other facts, we should give Ed some benefit of doubt.
I am not defending Ed but for all sellers in general. Once in a while I put my guitars on eBay for sales.

Re: Ed Roman's '63 Sidejack???
lol, he didnt have this on display when me and desert surfer visited last saturday (15th). I have a pic of what was in the shop, all of which were a little overpriced (IMO) and had non original features. The sunburst Ventures model that I was looking at (missing from photos) had 2 loose screws holding the neck on, Loose screws + tuned guitar = issues!! This was fixed though after I pointed it out, the guitar tech stripped it down..

These are the 3 of 4 vintage models he had, some peculiarites with them though, the blue VII model had spun knobs and a different bridge (also refinished), the ventures model had no serial on the fretboard. Nice sunburst MkV though showing some age..

Re: Ed Roman's '63 Sidejack???
I think the goal here is to avoid inflamatory accusations based on hearsay. In other words, Mr. X misrepresented a guitar to ME is different than Mr. X misrepresented a guitar to the friend of a guy who posted on a website. Also, facts are better than opinion: Mr. X didn't handle my return request in a satisfactory manner is different than Mr. X is a liar and a thief.
Let's give Mr. Roman something of the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he really doesn't know what he's got, or it's partial information that got uploaded by a less than astute employee (ie. an 80s reissue of) a 1963 sidejack. It would only take a call to his store to see how they represent it and how the react to the features on the guitar that make it improbably that it's a real 63.
Mel
Mel,
I never made an accusations towards Ed Roman, inflamatory or otherwise. You assume too much. I never made one comment about the guy, negitive or positive. Maybe you would know that, if my original post was not censored by dubtub.
The only thing I am guilty of, is an attempt to try to add information to this forum, to better inform the Mosrite buyer. And there is no harm in that. What one does with that information is up to the individual. If that's inflammatory to you, then the only thing I would say to you would be worthless to type on this forum, because dubtub would censor that comment as well. So all I can say is
Good day to you sir.
...No! I said good day!

Oi,
My apologies if you took this as a personal affront. I was trying to state what the forum policy on posts regarding business reputations. We'd like to keep these to personal experiences of the forum members themselves. Even at that, it's very easy for threads to collapse into flame wars with a lot of feelings hurt. We're trying to avoid that. If you've personally had business transactions with any vendor, we'd be glad to hear about it, good or bad.
Understand that there's a big difference between saying someone has an unpleasant personality, or hard to contact, or overpriced and claiming they are unethical. Also, please understand that we don't want to deter representatives of companies from contributing to the forum for fear of being dragged through the mud. Bob Shade and Hallmark got put through a pretty nasty episode on the surf guitar forum because of one unhappy customer. A lot of people with no personal experience with Hallmark jumped into the fray voicing very strong opinions one way or the other about something they really didn't know about.
Personally, I've had two interactions with Ed Roman's business, once visiting his shop in Las Vegas and once on the phone. In his shop, I played a few Fillmore Mosrites; Mr. Roman wasn't there personally and his staff was polite and not pushy. I did feel the guitars were overpriced. When I spoke with him on the phone inquiring about parts, he was cagey until he was satisfied I was trying to restore a vintage Mosrite and not build a clone, at which point he quoted me prices for the parts. I felt the parts were also extremely overpriced.
So, to summarize, we do want your contribution here. Please also understand that we're cautious after what happened to Hallmark on SG101.

oipunkguy,
All the moderators have read your post as it was only removed from the public forum and moved to the moderators chamber for review. It was the consensus of the moderators and myself that the title of your post and the posts content, which contained a link to another site discussing Ed Roman, was not beneficial or appropriate to the advancement of this forum. Actually it could bring discredit to this forum as being a party to slanderous accusations by a third party as mentioned by Mel in his previous explanation.
If any member reading this has a burning desire to read the subject matter in the link that you posted, or would like to read your entire post and my personal message to you explaining why your post was removed, they may contact me via PM and request it. I will only post it in a personal private message.
This forum is about individual entertainment by sharing information in a constructive manner and not a sounding board to try to bring unsolicited attention or discredit to any individual vendors or business. Additionally it is a privately owned forum. Obviously we reserved the right to remove any subject matter or material we 'the moderators' deem inappropriate to the good of the forum.

Re: Ed Roman's '63 Sidejack???
sounds like I pushed some buttons here. I still don't understand why, when all I attempted to do is add to the discussion. I never made any claim that I had any issue with anyone, other then I thought is was a lame move to censor me. But you got your opinion, and I got mine, so I'm done with the subject at hand.
as for the thing with hallmark, I can understand your reasoning because no business want to be dragged through the mud for something they did not do. I know this all too well, since I am a business owner myself.
the only thing I really would like to know is, how do hallmark get those neat sparklie finishes?

Not at all. And, we hope that we can all move beyond this subject and that you continuing being a part of the forum.
As for the sparkle finish on the Hallmarks, Mosriteforever, a member here on the forum is an employee of Hallmark. If he sees this I'm sure he can provide some insight. If not, post the question over in the Mosrite clone section of the forum then he'll be sure to see it.
